GTP 1350 and ground balance

Bill_S

Looks like the GTP 1350 does not have a manual ground balance, is that right? How well does it do with only automatic?

If it's still under warranty you can send it to Garrett for a free mineral chip update. This chip was designed for the heavy mineral situation in Australia................then it will literally fly in bad areas ....really cool for an auto ground balance. If you don't qualify for a free chip it will cost about $40.00..worth every penny. If you are in an area of light mineral and won't visit high mineral locations the standard setup will be fine. I hunt up hear in the Northwest and I am keeping up in performance with guys using their MXT's, They are fiddling and adjusting while I am "detecting".......................................I really wasn't too sure about the GTP 1350 but I absolutely adore it now!!!! It also really works well on the wet salt water beaches in the Seattle area...............again keeping up with MXT and Whites M6. Hope this helps.

Forgot to say, it has automatic ground tracking which makes a big difference plus Scan Track that automatically adjusts the detector to the way you search.

The issue I have had with most of the turn-on-and-go Garrett's, like the two GTAx-1250 and the GTP-1350 I had, was that the pinpoint mode's GB is too negative and they false over holes. Not too exciting when checking a plugged hole for a target. :(

Yes, the NW areas 'bad ground' is a definite challenge for Garrett's detectors. There in NW Washington and here in NW Oregon.

If the upgrade chip works that well, without loss of depth and sensitivity, then I might consider another sometime down the road. maybe just wait to see what Garrett and White's come out with later this year or by spring.
