Had a blessing at work yesterday.......

I was leaving the office to go and serve some papers on someone and about 500 yards down the road I see this man walking in a pair of hospital scrubs. He is staggering off the side of the road into traffic and is almost hit twice, so I turned on the lights on my unmarked and pulled up behind him. The man's clothing was soiled and so I asked him his name which was Raymond and he said he was going to the Motel 6 and that he lived on the streets. I asked him if he had a medical condition and he said he had been having seizures since he was 5, so I asked if he was feeling disoriented and he said he could not afford his medicine. I had an EMS unit called by a local officer who stopped to help, and the man began to cry I think he thought he was going to jail so I just sat and talked to him about where he was from and how he ended up all the way in South Texas, and explained to him we just wanted to help and he was not in trouble. It was a little chilly and so I gave him the only thing I had in my car which was a white undershirt to put on under his clothes. I told him about the good neighbor shelter where he could get some food and warmer clothes. And some may be asking why was that a blessing, and I was wondering that myself when it first came to me, well heres why I think it was. I took this job to take the guys off the street who break the law and now I think the Lord may have put me here to try to help those who are lost and assist those in need like this man, so on top of being an usher at my church I'm going to be in the Jail ministry and the Hospital visitation ministry also.

it is a blessing whenever you can help another person. I know the frustration of dealing with the criminal element and getting a tarnished view of humanity. Society looks down on the police due to the misdeeds of a few. I am glad you helped the gentleman. It is said that there are times we entertain angels and we never know it. God let you and this guy come together for He had a reason - His purpose. You may have been the only Jesus this man has seen and now can see Love instead of fear and hatred. The man may have been one of God's children and Jesus did say that whatever you do to/for one of these children, you do to/for Him.

I know a corrections officers for a county sheriff's office, he ministers to those who will let him while they are incarcerated. He has helped many in the years he has been with the department.

God bless you Silverstar Lawman and may He guide your words and deeds for His kingdom and glory.

That is a wonderful, moving post, Silverstar Lawman;

I think you will be very a very helpful, caring person in Jail ministry and Hospital visitation ministry...that is so generous of you to give of your free time to help others.

Several years ago, Hank and I had been visiting, at times on an almost daily schedule, a "lost" person in prison.
Over the course of 3 years, sporadically we experienced the inside of all but one Ct . prison, trying to help this person overcome his very difficult life situation and afford him the dignity that he deserved as a child of God.

What an "eye -opener " those visits were for me.....the prison conditions I would rather not discuss...suffice it to say...I was so happy to breathe the fresh air outside after the hour's visit.

God Bless you and keep you !

Best wishes in your new ministeries
