Had a chance to try out the 9x12 coil today

...on the Vista Gold.

Took it to the local sports field to see how it would fare amongst the trash...........
I would say not too bad.
I did notice something, I would get a good target signal in disc mode then pinpoint. Start digging the 6" round plug. I would scan the hole, target signal was no longer heard.
But, originally it was a nice coin type sound. Scanned the plug, no signal. The hole was no deeper than 4". I figured the target had to be somewhere, it was, in the side of the plug.
First coin was flat (Canadian clad), it was a quarter. The next time this happened it was a penny, and the last time was a pulltab. Couple other times gave up digging.
There was no other junk targets in the area of the plugs.

Anyone else find this happening? A characteristic of the coil? I don't think I would use this coil again in the sports field. The Super 6 so far out performs it in that type of hunting at the same sports field.

I hope I didn't get another bad coil, at least it doesn't false.

Correction its the 7.5x 11 coil.

Looks like another bad coil. I thought is was good supposed to be one of the updated coils, well it doesn't false.
I haven't really ever used the coil except the other day and some back yard testing when I first got it. Have been using the Super 6.
Good thing I didn't try beach hunting with it the other day, wouldn't have found anything deep.
I suspect its bad as the seller I got the Gold from along with the large coil and the bad Super 6 recently indicated he bought Carter's remaining stock of DeepTech
detectors and search coils and found Carter sent him bad coils after checking them. Guessing the ones that were originally supposed to ship back to DeepTech weren't. Looks like he got stung.

So I went outside in the back yard to test my PI. Figured I would test the Gold with the 7.5x11 coil. Had the Jefferson nickel at 9", the large coil would not pick it up.
Gold ring buried at 9" it would not pick it up. So I grabbed the replacement beautifully working Super 6. Easily picked up both targets. Reburied each at 7", not a peep
out of that large coil. The Super 6 no problem you heard the targets loud and clear.

Now I know I have another crap coil from the originals that were sent over. I won't be using it, its useless. The coils serial number is 12855.

I know what the Vista Gold is capable of with the Super 6, with a good working 7.5 x 11" coil it must really rock for depth.

well that stinks Sven but the new coil does separate really nice for the size of it and you notice the depth and sens on it also

Not going to even ask. The Vista Gold with the large coil was bought as a used machine.
Cost me $45.00 to ship the Super 6 (brand new) for a replacement, then when the replacement arrived cost me another $28.00 for Canada Customs fees and taxes because it was shipped UPS.
Technically I should not have paid any fees or taxes as it was not a purchase from overseas but, a repaired item that I already owned shipped for repairs. Can't argue with Canada Customs.
Should have had it shipped to my parents in the US and then picked it up. No fees, taxes.

Now that we know the orig. importer guys dumped a lot of defective coils as new good coils, instead of returning them to DeepTech for disposal . I would be cautious when buying a new or used coil unless it had a current manufactured date not a 2013 date. Rossi at DeepTech could tell by the serial number. Too bad there will still be a bunch of us who will have to suffer a loss due to the bulls++t those two pulled off. I will not be reselling this coil or putting it back out there onto the hands of the unsuspecting public. Thank goodness we should shortly have reputable US distributor, warranty station handling the DeepTech detectors and put them back on top of the game.

Sven we know who this dealer is and think it is pretty low to sell off these bad coils to another dealer that resells them to customers not knowing coils are defective.

oh dear  yep some screwy dealers here also I rather pay a bit more and have no dramas and yes will be good to have a honest dealer and I am wanting to try one of these and have some time to save up which is good always need a better gold ring hunter :bouncy:

thanks for the info on second hand stuff also much needed intel

When Blazer is set-up and when I am looking for a coil, will order from him.

Always great service from this dealer.
Out of the blue----
Got a surprise email, saying he's sending me a brand new replacement search coil, no charge.
:beers:

I sure hope DeepTech sends him a new one to replace the one he's sending me. Would make a good business jesture on their part.
And show the world what a great company DeepTech is............

Got a brand new replacement coil in the mail today thanks to JMT.
I eagerly opend the box and attached it to my Gold and headed out into the back yard.
Turned on the Gold and the first thing I noticed, no noise ion all metal mode with sens at 45 or maxed out.
Tried to ground balance, it wasn't happening at any adjustment of the GB, just heard one peep. So I used my preset mark as the GB point.
Waved a coin across the coil, it picked it up. Swung the coil across the buried nickel at 9" that the Super 6 could pick up, this coil wouldn't even make a sound.
Waved the coil across my hand trowel on the ground, would not pick it up past 5". Figured something is not right. Threw a $1 coin on the ground, it would only pick it up to 4".
I played with every setting possible, the results were all the same. Threw my coil back on, same results. Threw the Super 6 coil on, the Gold works fine or at least I think it does,
had no issues picking up the nickel etc. I did notice one time for a couple seconds it wouldn't pick up a coin. Otherwise, it works great.

Now this has me thinking, my machine is one of the early units to arrive in the US. Bet there is a problem internally. Not sure what's on the circuit board in the way of trimpots for calibrating
or if there is a bad connection etc. When I get a chance, will take a look, see if I can or even possible to fix the problem by myself.
I have been using my Gold with the Super 6 coil, felt this is a superb detector. Now to find out its the 1st generation and not working properly
and if made to work properly, just wondering how much better the performance is when working properly. Still one of the deepest detectors I have owned and won't part with it.
AMC said his Gold is the 3rd generation and works perfect.

Sending the replacement coil back to JMT, many thanks to him for sending it in the first place.

If I find the problem with my Gold, will let you know.

Not counting on it, it was bought used, I'm third owner, no warranties.
Would be great if they would swap, send me a new circuit board as I could do the work.

Rec'd a slightly used Vista Control box, battery box on the s-handle as a replacement thanks to JMT.
Highly appreciated his offer, how could I refuse. Almost sold my coils, got his email in time.
Never had great service like this from any detector dealer who went above and beyond........

Happy to be up and running again, this machine rocks!

I will have to buy a Deep tech Gold . and see for myself.
