Had a wonderful day!

Saturday was one of those days we often dream about as metal detecting hobbiest. The sunrise was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky and temps were to top out at 70 for the days high. With my wife not fully retired, I usually do my old coin hunting during the week and while I will hit a school yard/tot lot on the weekend, I don't usually venture to far from home nor be gone to long. With the day starting off so beautiful, I kinda had a strong urge to seek out some silver rather then some clad. About the time I was having those thoughts, my wife said she had several things she wanted to do and would be out and about until until afternoon. I promptly said,"I think I'll go detecting." I got that knowing smile that said all was right with my decision. A good start already.

I decided to go out to one of my more favorite spots and see if it would give up one more silver coin. Since I retired in 06 the spot had been quite generous, but of late was becoming quite frugal. The LTD, however, had seemed to be giving it a bit of new life.

I had mostly been using the two DD coils that had come with the LTD since getting it for Christmas, so I decided to give the 6 1/2 elliptical a good try. I had just barely began hunting when I heard a vehicle pull up and noted it was Terry and Debbie, a husband and wife team and fellow Memphis Metal Detecting club members. Great I thought, it will be neat to hunt with some fellow club members and to see if they needed any help with the T 2 I had sold them. Terry had a F 75, so he was familar with the T 2 and we all started swinging off in different directions.

Over the course of the next three hours I had two guys stop and inquire about detecting. I talked with each for a bit, showed them what I had found (they weren't impressed, no gold) and invited both to one of our club meetings.

As it neared 12 o'clock, I began working my way back to my vehicle and hoping for one more good target. Actually, I was hoping for my first good target. Although I had dug 6 wheats and a dozen other coins of clad, silver had eluded me...once again. But, it had still been a wonderful day. HH jim tn
