Had my best hunt for the year.

Mick in Dubbo

New member
G'day all.
Took the Ace at for a hunt yesterday and finally hit some pay dirt with it. It's been a fairly quiet year for finds, so it was nice to have a good coin count. Even scored a couple of rings and a letter opener in the bargain. Total for the day was $39.09.
Given that I figured that I'd be out for a while, I left the car to the missus and used the tredley. It doesn't take long to brake down the Ace. Sure wish I'd packed the sniper coil today though. I thought I'd try my luck at the local show ground, but it was just wall to wall with rubbish signals in the ground. Only managed to pull out 3 coins in an hour for $3.20.
When I located the Gold coloured ring, I was getting some funny behaviour with the pinpoint mode. Can't quite explain it, but something about it told me to persevere with it and it turned out that there was also a $2, a $1 and a 20 cent coin all within about 8 inches of the ring. Perseverance pays.
I thought that I would include a couple of photo's to give you Us detectorists some idea of coin size comparisons, both of our modern coins, and our pre decimal coins. You will see a dime at the top of the bottom 2 photo's as well as a US cent. There is also a US cent at the bottom of these photo's. Every coin in the photo, was found with the Ace bar the Shilling, which was found with the X-Terra 30; that includes the US coins! The pre Decimal coins are not the full set of what we used to have, just what I've got on hand. You may note, that there is 2 different designs of three pence's and half pennies. They are not the only ones with more than 1 design.
I hope you enjoy them
Mick Evans.

Great pictures. I bet that large coin made the Ace scream. I am curious about what notch your coins hit on the Ace? Do you have any that fall in the pulltab range?

Great variety of treasure. Nice................

G'day John.
We have 2 coins that fall into the pull tab range. They are the 5 cent and 10 cent coins. They don't sound any different to a pull tab either in discriminate or pinpoint. I've just got to pull them all up and see what comes up. A lot of weather I dig them at all has to do with the spot I am at. Also, our $1 and $2 coins fall in the thick of the screw cap range. They also sound the same as a screw cap and the only time you can a $1 coin apart, is if the target is in the top 2 inches, the screw caps tend to fade a bit more as the pinpoint slides off. $2 coins sound the same as a screw cap.
As far as the large coins go, I can't tell them apart from other items while in discriminate mode, but they have a sharp drop off in pinpoint. What is funny though, is I only check out about 2 or 3% of all signals I suppose that we are just looking for targets that don't bounce around on the metre too much.
Cheers.
Mick Evans.

Super haul Mick,
Well dug M8.
I've downloaded the pics an' I'll brighten and enlarge them to get a good look.
You must be well chuffed with that lot, worth doing the dance for.
