First actual hunt before the rains come. The sun was in and out of the clouds and hot. Was hoping for the rain clouds to move in and cool things a bit.
Went over to a park around the corner, couldn't hunt there, baseball leagues were out and about........ Opted to try a schoolyard I located then....
Looked semi-promising at first. Wrong day to step out for a hunt, the ground was bone dry and really tough to dig. Toughed it out for a little over an hour, before the heat started to get to me.
Didn't know what to expect after reading that the gold is not suited for parks and schoolyards with trash. Due to not enough disc range for coin hunters.
Worked fine for me, had no problems to speak of. Ran it like I would run a Tesoro, namely setting disc just to break up on small foil. Hunted in disc mode, first coin was a Canadian clad nickel.
Then a couple pennies and some pulltabs, canslaw couple bottle caps. The normal trash I would find every time I go hunting. Did find some small foil, nothing out of the ordinary. Found a couple more pennies and a nickel.
I found if the target almost sounded good but broke up, would check it in all metal and in two tone to see if a high tone would sneak thru. If it did I would dig. Used All metal then to pinpoint a little tighter or to size it.
Dug a bunch of targets to verify what I thought the target was. It was a very trashy schoolyard, so hunting startight all metal mode was not really an option. Two tone was a bit busy, if I stayed a bit longer would have hunted in that mode a lot more. The ground was just too hard to try and dig a lot, besides the sun was starting to bother me. Will come back when the ground is moist.
Overall impression, operating the Gold is very easy. For an Tesoro owner it would almost be second nature. I like it. Very sensitive and fun to use. Since I generally like using concentric coils for precise pinpointing, DD's are a bit tougher for me to pp with especially without a pinpoint switch. Switching to all metal mode does help out with pinpointing. Having a toggle switch under the control box like a trigger makes it much easier.
I was using the Super 6 coil, ground balanced, sens 45, slow, and no boost, disc was set at the second main mark from lowest range.
Hopefully the weatherman is wrong and it will be a nice day Sunday without the rain, would like to take the Gold out again.
Todays weather forcast, they really like to scare us...
Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.
Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Rapidly rising rivers and creeks can sweep away bridges, culverts, buildings, and people. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Stay away from all windows, skylights and doors. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
