Half Day Because of a Dead Battery

Got out early anticipating a long day of hunting, but the day was cut short after only five and a half hours when my coil battery became completed depleted. I charged up everything before I left but I was in an area today where I needed more power, so I bumped up Sens to 90, set Reactivity to 1, Silencer to 0 and upped TX to 3 while in 12Khz. I contacted Bart about this since it was the first time this has happened to me. He advised me that TX-3 can cause problems. I guess I'll leave TX alone unless I'm reducing it rather than increasing it.

I could have stuck around and let my battery charge for a while, but I opted to call it a day and give the site another go tomorrow or Monday. I still have 75% of the land to hunt....I hope there's more hidden there, because it was a pretty good silver day before the coil ran out of juice. Pardon my scratch, I guarantee you it hurts me more than it does you--fortunately it's a '15S, so not the high dollar '15.

AWESOME hunt!!!
Ya that TX-3 will gobble the power.
Congrats on the big silvers...

Hey Beep - I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago - hunted for 5-6 hours in 12 khz in TX 3 and my battery died too. Since then I have a portable power source that fits in my pocket that has a capacity of 7800mAh at 5V - this will recharge the coil, controller, and headphones from absolute dead three or four times before the power source itself needs recharging. Picked it up at Sam's Club for about $40...

That's one heck of a silver day there!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions--CZ, the extra power source is a good idea, I may just do that--As soon as it happened, I thought of you and your semi-recent post about your battery going dead--I wondered if it happened to you again or not. UncleTom, another coil is a great suggestion...I ordered the 11-inch when I got back home today! I've been wanting one, just needed an excuse :) I've read where people really love the larger coil, but my only concern is will the 11-inch separate targets as well as the 9-inch coil...I guess I'll find out soon enough. HuntinDog, thanks for the insight--Unless I'm in 4K, I don't really see a reason why I need to use TX-3...TX-2 will have to do.

Nice finds! I have been running TX 3 Full time.I must have a good battery mine last forever.I rarely hunt for more than 6 to 8 hours at a time tho .I have been getting great depth since I started using reactivity at 1-2 and silencer 0.Great depth! I also use a battery pack that I got with my PivotHead camera glasses.I can charge the coil, remote and headset from one source in the field .I would like to grab another coil so I have a charged backup at all times.Good luck on your next trip to that site! HH Jim

Thanks Jim, that's good info--I'm not sure why changing to TX-3 that one time caused the battery to quickly deplete; it was the first time I upped TX in any frequency. I've been out hunting twice since that day and didn't change TX from 2, and haven't had any similar issue.

On a side note, I really enjoyed the quality of your video with the PivotHead camera glasses...going to look into them!

There is no kown "issue" with hunting with TX Power set at "3". It does use more power but 8 hours on a full charge should be the norm. Not sure what problems Bart is referring to but other than a slightly shorter run time, there are no problems that you shouuld have.

Some people running 3.1 updated to 3.2 have had issues with the battery indicating full when it was not but either reinstall 3.2 or allow all three components to fully drain and then recharge fully to reset the "brain" to reflect battery conditions.

Hope this helps

So you carry a "charger" with you in the field? Doesn't it take several hours to charge the coil? Are you saying you wait for the coil to charge up, or switch to a backup detector while the coil is charging?
Please explain. Thanks.

I don't know what the output is on these charging banks, but if it's anything close to the Deus Emergency Charger accessory, then it should only take 30 minutes to gain an extra 3 hours...I copied this from another site:

"The XP engineers designed an Emergency Field Charger (retail price: £12.95 ($16.95)) which utilizes one AA battery for charging each of the XP Deus' three LiPo batteries in the field: 30-minute charge time provides extra three hours, and 1-hour charge time provides 5 hours of battery life!"

Whats the problem you bunch of babies! :cheekkiss:

BE PREPARED and fully charge all three of the "units" before you leave the house. :clapping:

Yes absolutely carry a field charger just in case you forgot to charge all three units. :poke:

I picked up a cheapo 2 AA charger, charged the coil in about 30 minutes. :beers:

I have hunted with my Deus for over 8 hours with charging anything at TX 3 and 4.

I clean all parts of the Deus when I get home from hunting and then I hook everything up to charge and it stays n there till I go out again....Never forget to charge up this way.

Jim

Me too Jim; clean and charge when I get home; unplug when charged, then a quick charge en-route to the site. That's why it was such a surprise to me when the battery was dead in such a short time.
