Dug this several months ago at an old homesite in Mississippi. There are small solder marks where the chain for the necklace would have been connected. Was this a popular desighn or possibly someone from New Orleans? Thanks for looking!!

Its also the design on the New Orleans Police Dept badge. cch.

Is it another 7th Corps Arkansas badge. ?? See this other post. cch

Thanks for the comments! The only difference in the Arkansas insignia is that this one would have been worn with the star at the top from the location of where the solder marks are. After researching the New Orleans police badge I learned that the symbol was put in use in 1855. When the star is located on the top it represents the chief or captain of the police force. The area it was found in did have a police jury which started in 1863. The man they appointed captain in 1863 had just moved back to Mississippi from New Orleans. Maybe this was his necklace and the symbol he brought with him from New Orleans. His house was located on the same street and possibly the same lot that it was found, however none of the houses are still standing. A little more research and I should be able to find the exact location of his house. It's looking like I was in his front yard! All the pieces seem to fit! Thanks again!
