Hammered Penny and Chunky Earring

TURNMASTER

Active member
Well I got our for a little over an hour and got a few good hits. The earring was weird. It was kinda all over the map with some good silver sweeps mixed in. I thought I was going to dig a penny or a dime or a rusty nail... No not a nail, it did sound better than a nail.

That beat up thing next to the Penny under the Earring is a Memorial. hardly recognizable as a coin at all.

Generally speaking, every penny newer than 1984, that I've found, comes out of the ground looking like it's been there for a thousand years! It actually cost more to mint the penny than it's worth. And that my friend is the typical federal government logic. They know how to spend and that's about it.

Amen Martin....no truer words written or said about our own so-called government! The zinc pennies are like the old zinc mills and deteriorate quickly...depending on the soil in which they are dug up! Some soils are more acid than others and sure do a work on all clad coins! Good going Jeff and I have to say you sure are patient in working with your detector in a very junky area and sure hope you come up with some really nice goodies to reward you for all that digging! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Jeff - It does seem like I throw away a lot of pennies due to corrosion. One can surely tell if it's a wheat right away. Neat ear ring, steve in so az

That hammered coin is solid copper I think I saw 1976 on it . It is actually bigger around than a penny, almost big as a Nickel.

Nice finds. Yes, those zinc pennies deteriorate faster then anything. My 189 year old penny (1822 large cent) is in better condition then most zincs lol Sad but true. A correlation between American gov't back then and American gov't today :(

Nice Large Cent and, yes, the metals for coin making or minting back then were much better and not like the clad coins of today made of valueless metals! Also, the money was backed up with gold and silver but not now! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Yes, we actually had GOLD & SILVER to back our money back then. Now.....they are practically worthless pieces of paper. Sad but true.

Yes, very sad for all the Government does now is print more worthless money making the dollars and coins we have even more worthless! What a shame and our useless, greedy gov't has caused most of it in the past, present and will probably in the future, as long as the end of the age doesn't come when God's saints will be gone and then all havoc and destruction will happen in the great tribulation coming upon the whole earth! 'Tis a shame we don't have more moral and common sense people in gov't offices! Ma Betty
