I finally replaced my headphone wire on my Safari! I had visited a number of stores including Radio Shack (where I originally bought my extendable audio wire), I ended up at a dedicated electronics store that has been around for ever and they had just what I had been looking for, for only $7!!
For a few weeks now, there had been a minor internal break in the wire and I got so irritated at 'tweeking' the wire in different positions to avoid the crackle sound of the intermittent connection.....so frustrating!!!
I also finally took the metal rest off the underbelly of my detector. It served no purpose for me and just would snag my headphone wire which was irritating so off it came. The ground around here is usually quite firm and dry (Southern California). If I lived in a place where there is soft or moist/wet earth and my detector would need to be off the ground to keep it clean, I would have left the metal rest piece on. I may end up modifying it (file the corners off and make them rounder)....we'll see.
It has been in the mid to high 90's so even though I got out yesterday for 1hr....I was glad to get back into some air conditioning!!
