When digging in my area you need a strong tools!. Some bend and this one.... I liked this one to and would buy another one.
 
i had that happen to me to. for harder soils bring a striaght edged hammer and just break up the dirt some. i heard it works even though i have never used one.

This is now what I use. I did use a Dremel tool to grind a sharper edge on both edges...works great!

And only $8.99 with a lifetime warranty.
 
That is one of my favorite tools also. I have only broke one, but I have lost a few! :)
