Harriman Park NY scam .....

NY is FIRST in hand out programs put together by our spendy government by a long shot !!.....California is 2nd by a long shot .....NY has over 100 programs that they fund to keep their buddies working , and California has only about 40 something ..... This is a HUGE part of why our taxes are so high in NY ......Recently I bought a permit to hunt the local fresh water beaches in Harriman State Park ....This is a NY State Park that I pay taxes for ......I paid $20 for a permit to hunt ONLY a few of the beaches ....NOT the picnic area, nor any other area in the Park , JUST THE BEACHES .....I go up there for the first time to hunt and there is a little booth there ...I stopped and told the young lady that I was going to metal detect , and she said "No problem , that will be $8.00" ....I said " Excuse me " ? .....She said "$8 please " ....I told her that I paid $20 for a metal detecting permit .....She called the office and they told her to charge me the $8 .....I told her that I would like to go and dispute this with the office but she said that it would STILL cost me $8 to pass the booth .....I was FURIOUS !!!.....Upon returning home , I realized that after looking at the permit , that it said in small print " no refunds " .......... I have to stand in line with every other person in a grocery store that has Food Stamps that I am paying for , and now I'm getting scammed for trying to metal detect too ? ......... I am LEAVING NY !!!......I've had enough !!......Jim

that sucks big time

lmao lol yes that sucks..omg:ranting:

I bought the empire pass, which is around $69.oo then the metal detecing permit for ANOTHER $40.00. Here on Long Island I guess if you want to hunt you have to pay. Yes it does suck but life goes on. The only good thing about all of this is we have some GREAT beaches her on the Island, We all complain about the prices , just hope it does not go up again next year

I live and hunt the beaches in NYC. The NYC park and beach permit is free. Some beaches you have to pay to park but not all.

You bought a permit for the right to detect.......correct?. This does not include admission to the parks........BTW $8 is a deal......come on over to CT and they will bang you $20-$30 for one day's admission to the salt water beaches.

it's a no, no. Wish we could get a permit to hunt some of these swimming lakes, I'd buy the season pass also....But yeah, that does suck....HH

So our state taxes pay for ....?????????? ...... Are we now 2nd class citizens ? .....We can pay taxes to keep the parks and beaches going , but we can't use them without continueing to pay additional money ? ......... When did this countries priorities get so screwed up ? .....Jim

I know you say we can't do anything..But the truth is we can..We just don't !!

So check out some of your options and get it changed.. YOU HAVE THE POWER !!

Yeah, it's an $8.00 entrance fee, on top of the permit to hunt. On the other hand, it's a beautiful day at the park. Harriman is having a hard time staying up and running - it really is an expensive place to run, because there's actually a lot of aging structures there. I don't mind the fees. Cheaper than a movie. Anyway, you can pick up a permit right there at the office of Tiorati or Lake Welch. There's nowhere online to get the permit, you have to show up. Metal Detector permit at Harriman State Park
