any gold coin experts out there?it seems like there is a lot of gold coins in the ground that every one is missing. Like to hear some expert advice on this topic.Bob from clarksville tn.

Never found any gold coins, but have found small gold rings, chains... Very sensitive machine from what I've seen.

I've found one. It's a $2.50 piece made into a "love token". As far as alot of them being in the ground that everyone is missing...I doubt it. What ever is out there is few & far between. When someone lost one you can bet they spent alot of time looking for it. If you put it in perspective, a $20.00 Gold Piece lost in the mid to late 1800's could well be a months wages for someone. I know if I lost a month's or even a weeks wage I'd look damn hard for it. But, they are out there & you've got the machine to find 'em. I've done well in finding Gold rings as well. Most of these rings are from the late 1800's to early 1900's. Point is do some research. The goods have to be there to begin with. Good luck in your search! I can't wait to find #2!

I have never found a gold coin, however there was a guy here a few years ago that found a few of them as part of a cache out west in a ghost town of all places. I remember another guying finding several of them in a road that was dug up.

Seems to me that the small $1 gold coins would have been easily lost due to their size, but I have never found one.

Hi, That love token is even better than finding a regular coin as far as I'm concerned. Where r you located and where did u find it? I'm in northern NJ.....Best, Erik

Hey Erik,
I found it out at the Great Salt Lake here in Utah. It was at a site that was one of the first swimming beaches established out at the lake back around 1870 or so. I agree with you. I think "love tokens" are the bomb. I've found a few of them, mostly made from seated dimes. Who ever had this one made must have really "loved" their significant other to have it made out of a gold piece. Glad you liked it.

Hi Mike!

A friend of mine in England that I have detected with there found a beatiful English love token. In the old days there a guy would take two coins to a blacksmith who would bend them together in a vise into a slight Z shape so that the coins form a perfect match when placed together -- I suppose that no two sets of bent coins would be exactly the same. Anyway, the token that he found was also made from a gold coin, from the 1800's I think. He unfortunately lost it some time later and spent a lot of time looking for it on several occaisions. Finally he discovered it sitting in a flower near where he thought he lost it!
