Has Anyone of You Used the AT&T 'Connect Tech' Service?

SeniorSeeker

I've been an AT&t customer for many, many years and, for the most part, haven't had a major complaint with them. Several weeks ago, I had difficulty connecting to the Internet....so I contacted customer service. The agents, from the Philippines (used to be East India), were polite and professional but couldn't solve my issue, so they connected me to 'Connect Tech' @ the tune of $48! Those guys didn't solve the problem either but did charge me for the twenty or so minutes they had control of my pc.

I ended up taking my laptop to a repair specialist, who totally cleaned the HD and reinstalled windows 7 and some new security software. That did solve the problem but ended up costing me a bundle!

I recently paid the AT&T bill, including the 'Connect Tech' charges and sent it in along with a short letter explaining that I would never use the CT service ever again and am looking for a better DSL service package that understands and considers senior citizens Irving on a fixed income. We'll see what customer service does with the note but, in all likelihood, nothing will become of it. After all I'm just one customer and, if I were to leave, it wouldn't dent their service and or income a bit.

Does anyone know of a good DSL service provider that is reasonable (affordable) that has good customer service???

Martin,
sorry to hear you experienced this. If I was closer I would of done that for you for free. What did this technician perform on your computer? Did he /she tell you that they set everything back to factory condition? This is most likely what was done and the best part is.... you can easily peform this procedure yourself.

go into CONTROL PANEL, then SYSTEM AND SECURITY. Now at the very top in the "action center" click on RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME. Now in this next screen, click on ADVANCED RECOVERY METHODS. In this next screen see where it says RETURN YOUR COMPUTER TO FACTORY CONDITION. You would click on it and peform just that. That my friend is what your tech performed and charged you for. My information is free :)

To answer your question(s) no and did you ever play monopoly lol? Glad your computer is back up and operating. - Jim

The other thing I would like to stress is to back up all your photos, correspondence, music etc on a seperate drive. If you have not done this, I highly recommend that you do. This way if a "crisis" happens down the road, you can always set your computer to factory condition and then just load in your own personal items. Buy a 64GB flash drive and that will take care the situation.

Martin,

I see you mentioned that your tech installed some "new security software" but that is no biggy. Go to zone alarm's website and download there FREE zone alarm firewall and anti-virus (they are bundled together) Now you are all set. - Take care - Jim

Thanks Jim.. My technician did remove all the viruses, Trojans, etc. I'll copy and print your suggestion and use it next time (hopefully there won't be a next time).

Oh ... by the way ... for what it's worth ... I did find a service that delivers home and mobile High Speed Internet that is competitive price wise with At&t. It's called 'Clear'. Here's the link: Clear High Speed Internet Connection I may take the plunge.

Hi Martin,
that looks pretty interesting (CLEAR) I took a quick look but will go back later and read through the "fine print"
When you reinstall to factory specs with Windows 7 that wipes everything clean off the Hard drive and places everything back to factory specs. They (techs) make it sound more difficult so they can charge more. HH - Jim
