Has anyone permanently sealed their coil cover to the 10.5 stock coil?

I thought I might have seen some posts awhile back regarding this subject. I'd like to seal my coil covers for both the 10.5" and 8" coils. I will be going to Florida and would like to keep the sand and salt water from getting in between the cover and coil. Also does it void the warranty if you do?
Thanks

And it seems to be ok but need to take it apart again someday and see if any dirt has gotten in. On my 8" I tossed the protective cover and may do the same with the 10.5.

I was thinking about that. How long would it to actually wear through the stock coils? I know it depends on what type of area you are seaching, sand, more abrasive soils etc. Coil covers are probably in the same class as plastic on the relatives furniture if you know what I mean. I had goofy aunts and inlaws that had it on theirs. Detector manufacturers have it set up probably more for resale than anything else plus an extra $10. I'm an avid hunter getting out as much as I can. So I'm sure by the time I wear out my coil I won't care as I'm upgrading to the next level of technology. However the Explorer II seems to be a longer term machine compared to my upgrades every spring or so with White's.

i seal my coils for any machine that i plan on using on the beach. i use a clear silicone. just put a small bead around the cover and the coil at the edge. this is just to keep the sand and salt out. i periodically cut the bead during hunting weather to inspect it to make sure that nothing is in there then reseal it. the silicone will not harm the plastic as far as i know. never use any bonding agent without reading the label first. the cover is made to protect the bottom of the coil. don't seal it to the point where you can't get it off when you want.

Clear silicone should do a nice neat job and would advise several applications so you don't leave a minute hole and defeat your purpose. Personally my stock coil cover comes off and on easily unlike many brands so I didn't silicone it. Would call Minelab U.S.A. relative the warranty provisions...

Many beach hunters go without a cover, but feel over a period of time coil bottom could be damaged as the sand sure sharpens my digging shovel...
