has anyone tried the anderdson straight fiber rod on there exterra

No, but I understand that to change the X Terra to a straight rod configuration all you need to do is get the Whites Middle Rod and use that instead of the Minelab middle rod. All you have to do is drill a hole for the snap button to lock into because the Whites uses 2 buttons on the lower rod on either side and Minelab uses 1 on the bottom.

Firstly, the words are 'Their X-terra's' and secondly, why would you want to change the rod assembly to your X-terra? If you wish to break it down for storage or shipping or transport, wouldn't a single rod be a disadvantage?

I never break my rods down for transport Mr. senior, I was thinking the fiber rod would put more distance between the coil and any metal. Thanks for correcting my english Mr. senior. I guess if I had used my southern vernacular and said "thare" instead. hahaha. 'Their X-terra's' hmmmmm is that an apostrophe? "their xterra's" haha gotcha!

Funny One Mitwes56. The majority of the fellows I know prefer to break their detectors down for transportation, as the bumpy ride in the back of a 4x4 can really bounce your equipment around. Most detectors are built tough but electronics will take just so much beating and they then quit working. Food for thought.

Are you sure the guys in your area are breaking down their detectors so they'll ride less bumpy or because they'll take up less space that way. I don't know of anyone on my area who breaks down their detectors to transport it and it is four wheel drive country around here too. All we do is flatten out the coil as much as necessary and put a rug or something similar under the control box or shaft to cushion it and a detector will ride just fine that way no matter where you put it...

I'm sure space is part of the issue but, in my mind, it protects the electronics from the pounding a detector takes from bouncing around back there. I suppose my point is this: I've invested a lot of money in this thing and I'm going to do everything humanly possible to see that it last a good long time and, if that means breaking it down to transport it from one place to another, then that's what I will do. Imagine you're driving down the road and, all of a sudden, it begins to rain really hard. Your detector's in the back of your pick-up truck and facing the elements. You're driving down the road at 45-55 miles an hour and your investment is getting soaked! Electronics and water don't make good bed fellows, if you know what I mean. Enough said. Food for thought.

I agree with you senior on taking extra precautions on a bumpy ride, like a 4 wheeler, but I park hunt and beach hunt usually so its not a issue with me. I do flatten my coil tho when I put it in the back of my suv and toss a pillow on each side of the control head.

Putting a fiber glass lower rod on the XT's might not be a bad idea as I see they do it on FBS detectors. Though admittedly the Minelad FBS detectors do seem a little more sensitive than the XT models. Using a fiber glass lower rod on an XT-70 (705) that fit shouldn't hurt anything and who knows, it might even help a little... The other day my XT-70 was acting kind of chirpy, then happened to run my pro-pointer next to my new knee high rubber fishing boots and it rang loud and clear, they must have had a steel shanks. So started running the detector further away from my boots and that cleared the problem up.

Just for the record, my detectors "never" ride in the back of the truck. Only up front with me and my friends do the same..

the anderson fiber rod made just for the xterra . My train of thought on this was-- if the coil is about 3 ft from the closest large metal it just seems like that might be benificial. The high end minelabs all come standard with a fiber rod I think. Somebody at andersons must have thougt it was a good idea or they would not have developed it in the first place. The thread was not about transporting or breaking down a machine for transport. thanks

Is there a particular model of whites that I need to get this straight rod from or are they all the same diameter?

I've tried the one from my Whites M6 and it fits. The only modification you need to make is to drill a few holes so that the stop pin has a place, as the Whites holes are 90 degrees off from the Minelab.

Hi guys gals,
I have ran my X-terra 705 with a fibreglass lower rod as it happens the XT1700 has a fibre glass lower rod of which I happen to have and fits perfect:surprised:
Did run with it for week or two did not notice much difference but did not try and push sense up I normally work around 23-25
Will run with fibre glass shaft again and push the sense up see what happens
PS only had X-terra for 4months still learning(always learning):detecting: and always detecting :)
Regards
Jeff

thanks bill, did you notice any improvement in the handling with the straight shaft? Did you try the 10.5 inch coil on it to see if it balanced any better?

I tried it because I did just get the 10.5 DD a few weeks ago. The 10.5 does feel better balanced and easier to swing with the straight shaft configuration then with the X Terra S shaft.
