has anyone tried wireless headphones on their xterra?

there seems to be alot of wireless phones out there with alot of pro's and con's. I would like to get something for the hot weather coming up here and get away from the full earcups on the regular wired headphones. Would appreciate any input or opinions on this.

You could make your own and use any pair of headphones you want, it would be cheaper as well.

I did a search just on the X-TERRA forum for "wireless headphones" and came up with nearly 60 posts. Seems some brands work better than others on the X-TERRA. You might send a PM to those who posted favorable comments and see if they still use them. HH Randy

I use the old wireless unit from Radio Shack. They work great but, they quit making them. Some guys are saying that the, "Auvio" 33-283 from Radio Shack are a pretty slick wireless unit for around $80. That doesn't include the adapter for compatability. I've heard that if you go to R.S. site they don't list that particular part number but, you can Google it.

Most of the wireless sets I have looked at are 1/8 in jacks and most metal detectors are 1/4 in jacks. I know you can buy the adaptor at radio shack. Curious if someone makes a wireless headset just for metal detecting or are they all for music and we just make them work?

Yes, the AIRHEADZ are made specifically for detectors, and I THINK you can also get a cord if you would want one, but I'm not sure. I really like them, but they are expensive.

I tried with my 70? To be honest mine did not work. If you are tired of your cable getting tangled. Get an extender cort with a male on one end and a fenale on the other. Run it to the back of your arm rest, secure with wire ties or other. Have female just under the arm rest. You may be suprised how much this helps, Beale.

The Radio Shack Auvio 2.4 freq. ones work pretty well. Don't notice any lag. They're 80.00. There not great in high noise areas because they are not noise canceling but if you want a pair of wireless headphones and can still be aware of your surroundings, they work.

I had a set from Radio Shack a few years back. The sending unit and headphones were recharged together and they were about $60. They worked great, but they quit making them because I was told they had a lot of problems with them. I never had any problems and used them on my 70 for a number of years. The rechargeable battery eventually died, but if I could find another set I'd buy them again.
