Has anyone used the garrett pro pinpointer with the explorer or etrac?

Neil

Well-known member
does it interfere with either detector?

I have the X1 now on an SE.

Thank you,
Neil

I own a E-trac and use the garrett pinpointer and have no problem's at all. When I got my E-trac everyone told me to get the sunray probe. But I wanted to keep the wieght of the machine down as lite as possible. It's the best hand held pinpointer I have ever used! To bad their machine's coundn't be as good.

Harold thank you, Im going to try one. I agree keeping the weight off the rod is important for me also. as it is I try and use the lightest coils that perform well also.

If your looking for a good lite wieght coil that has good depth along with good seperation get a sunray x-8 coil. I got one last year do to a shoulder problem I have. I like it so much it is now my main coil! I honestly don't see that much deep difference between it and the pro coil. And it weigh's less than a pound! Alot of people don't believe me but I dug a barber dime once at just a hair under 10''. I can swing it all day with no arm fatigue, were as the pro coil after 3-4 hour's my arm was ready to fall off . And compared to the other coil's the pro coil is considered lite! That's why I never even considered the 10x12 sef.

Harold, you are right about keeping that machine light! I stand 6'1" in height, and can swing my exp II 10 hrs straight, I use the X-1 and 10X12 sef. I have developed some serious shoulder pain and muscle knots recently, really painfull. I may have to come up with a different setup, like maybe a swingy thing.

Neil, I have a garret pro pointer and it really works good if your not in a highly trash area. Lets say if you get a good quarter hit on your explorer 2 and its down 7 inches or so,once you dig your plug the pro pointer will go off on the closes thing what might be a nail then the next is a screw cap then a pull tab etc.You keep checking and after 5 minutes of digging you finally found it. If you have a sunray probe you can eliminate the trash and go right to the coin because the sunray is working with your discrimination settings and wont fire off on trash and will cut being on the ground by half if not more. Its a time saver.I hope this helps. Best way is to try them both.

Thanks everyone, Ive ordered one of the pro pointers.

Harold I have that X8 and its light your right. mostly I use he pro coil or the 10X12 SEF(lightens up a bit if you remove the cover). Its the bigger SEF coils and WOT coils I no longer use.

amcrulz I tried the swingy thingy and for me since I hunt mostly slanted ocean beaches I dont care for it. on a flat beach its fine but on an angle I didnt care for it.

easy Im sure your right about finding everything with the pro pointer but I want to keep the weight off the pole and Im pretty good at pinpointing from the start so this is just something to speed up the recovery process a little.
