I am always trying to set my machine up differently. Question is, if you lived in an area that has black sand and iron and trash would you set your machine on deep or fast or both? I usually hunt in -12 and semi auto. Would it be better to hunt in manual? HH

If I'm getting a lot of interference I seem to stick with semi-auto more than manual and run up the sensitivity up and down till it's stable...

Never hunted in black sand. But, I have ran into situations where semi-auto was worthless because my machine would just chirp and pop no matter what I did. Even with sensitivity in the single digits. As soon as I switched to manual and adjusted the sensitivity it would be fine. It's just something to keep in mind if your machine gets flaky and won't calm down.

Are you batteries charged? Sandy at Minelab told be if your machine is an older one the contacts on the battery oxidise with age and needs a light scraping to make them shiney clean again. She was right, seemed to help the machine work more solid.

I've hunted Jersey coast with these settings and they worked well. Sometimes SENS higher than 18-20 will false all over the place in these conditions. Hunt SENS as high as possible without undue falsing.
I was digging quarters at a foot plus. Good luck!

I would think some steel wool on any well used battery might help. Just reading here I'm realizing everyone is doing something different. I don't have black sand here so I'm already guessing that is different then having some interference from a local electric light rail system... But I'm storing it all away in case I'm traveling... <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> Guvner..

IMHO:The best is to bury some coins, rings and iron there and adjust machine to beep it at max depth.
