a fishing sinker with a name empbossed on it? Or could it have been used for something else? It is lead with brass wire and is almost 3 inches long altogether. PEETZ
 
Peetz is a manufacturer of high end fishing equipment on Vancouver Island. They have been in business since 1925.

Thanks Mike, I saw their ad on a search, but they have the date 1977 in the company name, maybe they incorporated then or something.
