Head phones?

I am looking at suggestions for head phones for my tesoros. what woks good? Thanks

I use the original Gray Ghost headphones and really like them!

SunRay Pro Gold headphones have been my 'back-up' headphones, and the Killer B 'Wasp' have been my 'main-use' headphones.

I am sending my Killer B Wasps in for repair, again, as I have a short near the 90

Sunray Pro Golds all the way. Of course, can't beat my Ratphones too.

I'm a fan of Gray Ghosts, but the others mentioned all are good quality and each has its fans.

Take a look at Liberty headphones,,,,, hand-made by a fellow hunter,,,,, LOVE mine

I use Jolly Rogers with my detectors.

What I'm looking for-
1. "on the ear", not the kind that totally enclose the ears.
2. At least 100 ohm impedance.
3. Volume control
4. Light weight

Thanks guys

Liberty Headphones,,,,,

" Our headphones are very comfortable and come in three noise reduction ratings (NRR) 26, 28 and 33. There is no metal to rust and they feature very comfortable, true leather ear muffs.

Volume controls

We use a volume control with 11 detents to keep your volume setting in place.

Cord

Our cord is very heavy duty and twice the cord as some of the others on the market. Cord is two feet long fully rested and ten feet fully extended.

Speakers

Our speakers are durable and made to last. 150 Ohm and sound amazing!

Mono/stereo
All of our headphones come with a mono/stereo switch to make them compatible with most of the detectors on the market."

and the cord has jacks at BOTH ENDS so if you mess it up you can change it yourself !!!!

Do you happen to know the models, prices & website?

I've been thru alot of brands in the 20 some yrs of detecting settled on rat phones as back up and rattlers-which I like for hunting in woods as it only has one ear piece leaving other ear open to listen for other noises such as snakes-people-etc

That sounds like a winner to me.

tabman,,,, I got the 33's ( most NR) and am very pleased with the amount of ambient sounds that I can still hear, but not covering the MD sounds,,,,, I was worried I would be totally shut-out out of the world with them on but it's not the case,,, but in town next to a busy road I hear the MD perfectly. They are big and I have heard some people say they would'nt be caught dead in them just cuz of the size ,,,, so I think for many reasons Mike makes them in different cans to suit everyone. If you were a woods hunter the least amount of NR and sleekest style can may be for you ,,,,,

Thanks Grouser,

Got it!

I went hunting with Chad, and Mike came over ..They started pulling things out and were designing the phones...or started to..I have a pair of Grey Ghosts, and after the holidays will be in Lancaster checking out my next set of ears...Fro what I hear, they rank as about the best out there. No three doubts about it, they are good..

The first "top of the line" over-the-head phones I bought for metal detecting, after extensive research, were the RatphonesMax , built by Richard J. Viola at DETECT USA, Coral Springs, FL. I received them on July 17, 2008 and still using and completely satisfied.

wow, thanks for the info. I haven't been on in a few days and there are a lot of responses. I have looked at the one sided phones. I like to hear whats going on around me. I usually go hunting with my kids and/or wife, so its good to keep and ear open.

Why 150 ohms? I dont understand why all the detecting headphones are 150? The stock speaker is 16 ohms.

machineman,

At one time, an Administrator (Rudy) at Friendly Metal Detecting Forums [ http://metaldetectingforum.com ] had a "Headphones Clinic" thread running, where he answered questions and explained all the technical electronics stuff.

This clinic was running back on 03-09-2008 and I believe it was on the Friendly Metal Detectors and Gear board, Metal Detector Accessories forum. I tried the SEARCH tool on Friendly Metal with several different set-ups and also tracked back through thread and post dates near 03-09-2008, but no luck finding the Headphones Clinic.

So I sent Rudy a message, asking for the website navigation route to his Headphones Clinic. I'll be back to you later after he relies.

machineman,

Here's Rudy's reply (Quote below) re the Headpones Clinic. If he or someone else hasn't answered your "Why 150 ohms" post by now, I suggest you re-send your question directly to Rudy as a Private Message. Or if you prefer to have his reply show in the forum, send him a prompt via Private Message(PM) and include navigation to your post like this : Detectors and Gear > Metal Detector Accessories > Why 150 ohms (posted 10-22-12, 01:06 PM ).

If I can be of any further help, let me know. ;)

Hi Todd, I believe that headphone clinic vanished a while ago when we had a disk failure. Sorry.
