headphones question

mnteer

New member
I recently just bought a pair of headphones but am using a 1/4 adapter to connect to the detector (f2) and I noticed that the connection from the headphone jack into the adapter aren't really snug but enough to where it will work. My question is this when I first plugged in the headphones using the 1/4 adapter I wasn't getting any sound I have sound now after making just the slightest adjustment, will a little bit of dirt be of much concern when using the headphones with a 1/4 adapter?

Any answers or comments about this are very much welcomed, mnteer

Yeah, probably...and man, theres nothing worse than swinging away only to find out your headphones are not getting the signal...I'm at the point of maybe hardwiring mine.F70..it doesn't happen often, but when it does its really tragic on the nerves.

Ok then I was just wondering whether or not a bit of dirt might be a concern or not. I really wish they would have gave you something even plastic to cover that headphone jack up when not in use to me it seems like that would pretty logical thing to do because after all you are digging in dirt and not only that but the overall likelyhood that a tiny piece of dirt could get in there seems to be likely.

Mines got that 90 degree jack, and its great and all, but it does get a lot of pivoting and swivelling around in the thousands of hours I've swung it...I think my pin or socket just got worn to the point of everyonce in a while...no tones to the phones! So I unplug it, lick it, and plug it back in...I need to do a little maintenance on my equipment..its really been worked hard, and has held up in some really awful conditions just fine..I toss the thing in the back of the truck and it gets all sorts of dust and sand blowing aound on it as I'm driving from spot to spot...you should not have any trouble at all with a new one I'd think..

Mnteer you could go to Radio Shack and get a air can and clean the plug out on the detector and while there get another 1/4" adapter plug. Just maybe that adapter plug isn't any good? Try your headphones on your mp3 player maybe short in the headphone plug? All these things have happened to me.... Z
