Headphones......

Does anyone here use the tdk wr700 wireless headphones? Are they worth the cost? My new machine wasn't happy with the Bluetooth pair I have. I tired a pair of rapoos and the sound quality was terrible....still looking for a wireless option and someone mentioned these (I just missed a pair in the for sale section)........but they are right in that $100 range so just wondering if they are worth it!

Can not comment on the TDK but can tell you what I use with great success and sound clarity.
If you have a quality pocket clip on FM radio and a set of good ear buds this is an inexpensive home run for you and there is NO delay
This is the transmitter

This is one of the radios I use (all the time as it has very good reception)

These are the phones I have (actually have 2 pair the i6 not made anymore and these)

Caveat of the transmitter is the battery self discharges in about a week. I bought 2 name brand (Nokia) batteries (under $5 each) that hold up much longer (have 2 transmitters)
Once charged you can get a full day of use with no problem on level 1 output. Sometimes when the battery drops to 3 bars you have to bump up to the level 2 of output or you get some break up when you walk away from the MD.
One last thing, the usb charging cable ( real cheap one) they provide failed on me and some other customers, so if it does not charge, grab a cable out of the usb spaghetti box we all have in the closet. :) You can check the reviews of the transmitter on amazon, they are on the money!

Sorry for the huge photo..

I use a TDK setup albeit only as a backup as my Deus has cordless headphone as standard, build quality is very good and the sound in my mind are also good infact i have found them on certain machine far better than dedicated wired headphones, regarding the delay that is often linked to after market headphones i personally dont or have not noticed this problem and have been using them for about 2 years.

One thing i will mention and that is that after a certain time duration if they do not pick up any sound they think this could be the fact that the audio unit has been shut down down so the TDK transmitter also shuts down after i think its about 2-3 minutes to save battery life, but as the detectors that i use have audio threshold hum it does not switch the units off,so basically its not been a problem, but i thought i would mention that fact.As it does not work on Bluetooth as such but i guess its own system the delay that most folks are aware about on other units is not so bad if any with the TDK setup.

Do i rate them,my reply would be 'Yes' i do,they do the job that they had been designed for and work 'OK' with detector,it allows you to detect without any cables, wires etc and once you have used cordless headphones its hard to go back to a wired setup.I find that if i use a decenyt set of batteries i can get about 20 hours use from them, that figure is of course just a guide line figure,so i always carry a few spares with me while i am out detecting just incase.

The tricky bit of would i recommend them, that i wont give a firm 'Yes' to because i would not want anyone to buy them and find out they wont work well on that persons detector, then you could get folks mentioning well i have just wasted many on these rubbish headphones,so all i will say is they work for me and do exactly what they say on the tin.

Been using rapoos for a couple years...wouldn't leave home without them. The sound quality with my detector is IMO very good.
I've got two sets, one for backup. I will say when i ordered the 2nd set it was defective with cut outs, returned it for a new set that worked perfect.
These things are really designed for the frequency response of music so they should be more than able to handle any tones a metal detector can throw at them.

When you say the sound quality is terrible, how so? Distortion, cut-outs, low volume, etc.

I used the Rapoos until the batteries became too weak to carry much detecting past the 2 hour mark(couple of years). Very happy with the sound on the etrac but they sounded muffled and buzzy like you say on both an MXT and F75 with a lag on a CTX. I would opt for the TDKs if I was going to do it again or try the Sennheiser RS 160 headphones

The sound was distorted and not clear and crisp.....had a buzz like quality to it....

That could be a pinout conflict via adaptor/detecor, wrong 1/4" male stereo adapter to 3.5mm female stereo adaptor or the detector does not support stereo output at the jack only mono unlikely with most modern detectors.
The adapter needs to be a two band at both the 1/4" and 3.5mm ends. Don't know this for a fact but i seem to remember reading somewhere some detectors have the ground on the shank (the longer ring) and some have the ground on the tip. A buzzing sound in audio almost always indicates a wiring or grounding issue.

If your detector works fine with aftermarket headphones, it should work fine with the rapoos with the right adapter plugs/wiring barrring a defective rapoo set.

Did you go for the TDK headphones, will be taking mine out again tomorrow on my Pulse as i feel the tones are really enhanced on 2 specific detectors, like wired headphones some sound much better on some detectors than others.

I've tried a number of wireless setups:

TDK 700's, Auvio Earbuds, bluetooth with aptx technology - All sounded good but too much lag

Rapoo 3070's - Very minimal lag. Sounded fine on my Deus and my buddy's etrac, but awful on my Omega and my CZ. Even an inline volume control didn't help.

Sonics - These transmit and receive on an FM band. No noticeable lag, sound is decent, but they interfere with the machine.

I may try another FM setup in the future, right now Deteknix has been advertising a 2.4GHz headphones with transmitter setup, claiming "almost zero lag." They haven't started selling them yet, nor have they quoted a price. Might be worth a look. About time one of the detector/accessory manufactures got in on the wireless game.

What machine does FM interfere with? Could be just to close to the box..

The only ones that I tried them on were my Omega and CZ3D, and they interfered with both machines. There was actually no interference until the transmitting unit was plugged into the detector, so that may just have been a problem with that particular brand (the Sonics) and not necessarily because it operated on an FM band.
