I have an Explorer I with the small headphone jack. The headphones are caput and I need new. Can anyone recommend headphones or better yet does anyone know if the EX I can be retrofitted with a quarter inch jack?

Ralph at Sunray sells the stand for the EX1 that had the 1/4" jack built into it. The other side of the stand has an 1/8" plug that plugs into the the EX1 receptor. Works good.

You can also go to Wal-Mart and buy an adapter that fits the 1/8" jack and on the opposite end has the 1/4" jack for the better headphones.

I'll checck out the sunray product. The adapters are pretty limited use since the width interferes with the rubber battery door. I found myself losing contact often.

That is correct, that is what I ran into. You'll like the Sunray adaptor stand. I just had to glue mine on to keep it from falling off. Just bought their pro headphones cause I got more that one machine and I have to admit they are pretty good if you are looking for one set to use on several machines. The features that I like most and the ones I was least interested in when I bought them is the comfort and their blocking ability for external noise. Now when I am at the crowded park or next to a busy street the back round noise is acceptable. Especially those dang blaine basket ball courts. Seems like almost always when I wold go to a quiet park to relax and unwind
with my detector here would come the basket ball squad, that bing bing bing is worse than Chinese torture to me, or rather it was. And they really are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn and over the years I have worn many for my detector's and sterio's.

That means it must still allow access to the battery with it glued on. I will look at ordering one. I noticed that you can't use shadow headphones which is a bummer. I will probably look at buying some Gray Ghost or the Sunrays you speak of \. Thanks for the info. By the way, I took my EX I to England last fall and absolutely kicked butt. I have 52 coins and artifacts being classified by the English archaeologists. I can't wait to get them back. I had a Whites DFX also but kept going back to the Minelab even with the weight. I was just more comfortable with the target signal quality and I have used Wjites for years.

Same here. The the other thing that I really like about the Sunray phones is the volume click stops for each ear. They are very precise, just enough so you can get perfect balance between your ears and they keep the knobs from moving on there own. They are a precision piece of work I and am impressed with the quality, actually more than expected so to speak. I don't think you can go wrong with them. The reason I am saying this is because I have been using Koss Pro 3A"s
and TD-80's and now back they are back in the house on the stereo.

Both Mike and James are right but as a personal preference I would go with Sunray and for headphones I prefer the Grey ghost Ultimate.

I also have the Sun-Ray stand on my Explorer XS and it works great. Just thought I would mention about the adapter since already were told about the stand. Order one as soon as possible, you will be glad you did. I myself have a back-up stand just in case something would happen to the one on the detector. So you might want to get 2 of them because it's no fun if your out finding stuff and the stand gets broken.

Why do you feel you cant use Shadow headphones with the XS?? I use a set of the Troy Shadow Pros with my Explorer along with a set of the Sun Ray Pros.

Rick

Both have excellent sound quality, but I seem to use the Troy Pros more because it has a very heavy duty cable, softer ear cups and no toggle switch to switch. Like I say for the Explorer they both are excellent.
