Headphones

I was thinking of buying the Troy headphones. I just wanted to get some advice on here to find out if they are good head phone versus
some of the other good headphones. I do have a slight hearing problem, so I need some headphone that help me out in that area. I value the opinions on here, any help would be appreciated.

I also have a high pitch hearing problem and can't decide between the Grey Ghost or the Black Widow. Any suggestions appreciated.

I own 2 sets of Gray Ghost NDT's and I love these headphones. If the cord goes bad all you do is take it off and replace it with the spare cord you get when you buy a pair of these headphones. It is totally up to the user on what kind of headphones they like so get a pair that you think fit your needs and if you need more volume yet, purchase yourself an amplifier you can mount to your detector. If you need one of these, DOC'S PLACE has them for sale and you can check them out there at his website. Hope this helps you guys out and Good Luck and HH.

I'd heard good things about Grey Ghosts but I decided to go with the Black Widow's. Since i do more hunting at the beach, I got the BW's because they knock out a little more ambient noise. Really quiet and very comfortable. The only thing I haven't figured out is the limiter switch. Does anybody's work on the Explorer?

The limiters don't work on the Explorers at all, it has a built in limiter because it has a real sound card chip built on the board very much like a home computer.

On the Explorer is where I had to add a amp to increase the volume even more. Most would not need amp, but my hearing is bad.
I use the Troy Pros on my Explorer, the Timberwolfs on my Sovereign as they do have the best volume of any headphones including those that say they are the loudest. On the Explorer without the amp the Gray Ghost NDT and the Ultimates seem to be the 2 best of the Gray Ghost headphones. The Black widow didn't seem to be any louder for me. The Uniprobe which is made by Gray Ghost also has decent volume. The Timberwolfs seem to have slightly better volume on the Explorer, but a lot of difference on the Sovereigns. The Sun Ray Pros also seem to have better volume for me than the Gray Ghost while the Troy Pros seem to be my favorite while using the amp as I have my volume I need, the comfort these headphones have is great, a lighter ear cup, a cord that is built to last longer than any of the others and keeps its coil while others seem to lose the coil of the wire after a while. I also don't have to worry about the stereo/mono switch getting bumped as it don't have any as these work on any detector.

I tried the Troy Headphones on my Explorer but they sounded muffled and low in volume. I would not recommend them for an Explorer. One headphone that has not been mentioned here is the headphones which work the best for me. Those are the Grey Ghost Deep Woods Model. There is no volume control on them so all the sound goes through the headphones. There are only two switches mounted internally. One is a stereo/mono switch and the other is to turn the limiter circuit on or off. These have worked out great for several years. There is very good tonal range on the these headphones which I am sure is the case with the enitre Grey Ghost line of headphones. I tried the Timberwolf Headphones several years ago and they were a little louder but I liked the sound quality of the Grey Ghosts more. JMHO
