Hearing Gods voice

TURNMASTER

Active member
How many people hear Gods voice? I have many good Christian friends and I find that many do not hear the voice of God. That is to say they do not hear God speak directly to them. Some feel his calling and others have their prayers answered directly (not immediately).

I am speaking only of people who I am positive have accepted Christ as savior.

Do you suppose that God does not speak directly to everyone (believers)? I had not considered this could be the case until just 6 or 8 years ago.

I have wondered; if I am more quiet will I hear Him more often? Although I have not found that to be the case.

I have heard it said that if you are quiet and listen that God will speak to any man. Do you suppose this is a valid statement, I think it may not be.

Do you believe that God speaking to you is part of the gift of prayer? or of prophecy?

Seniorseeker's "Thought for the Day" made me wonder, so I thought I would ask.

God is Good

Think of a small still voice that takes time in the Word and in extensive prayer or quiet time to hear. Yes, indeed the Holy Spirit can stop you in your tracks with an inaudible shout. But, I don't believe that is common. I had occasion to participate in a Watchman Prayer Ministry some years ago. It is when you sign up for 1 hour of prayer per week (same day & time). Someone has the hour before you and after you. You get called to start and call the next person when your hour is up. It was very difficult for me to pray for a solid hour. A friend told me to pray what I could and then get into the Word for the remainder of the hour. Within a year, I was able to pray for the whole hour. That is when I learned to begin listening to the Holy Spirit, that small still voice that guides you. After our church stopped the Watchman prayer ministry, and my prayer partners were gone, I stopped those longer talks with God. Several years went by and I wondered why He was not speaking to me. Then I realized that for me, 5-10 minutes of prayer & reading a chapter in the Bible daily did not allow me to draw close and hear the Holy Spirit. So now, in addition to daily quiet time, I've returned to extensive prayer time on a weekly basis and have been Blessed with answered prayers (not always what I want) and confirmations of direction. Open your heart and give Him a chance to talk to you. Pray AND listen. You can not turn His voice on and off like a light. You pray, get in the Word, listen and when He knows that you are committed, He will bless you with that small still and unmistakable voice in your heart.

When I am in the Word often and spend more time in prayer I hear the Lord more often and more clearly. When one drifts away or gets stuck in a rut and does not devote this time to God, how can he hear the Lord? Think of it this way, if you call to your buddy on the phone once a month to chat. You will only hear what he has to say in that short time. If you call hime every day, you will hear so much more of what each other has to say and you will likely grow closer also. I also believe that not all people hear from God. I believe that you have to have a personal relationship with Him and comune with Him to hear His voice. The more we strive to grow in Christ, the more we will understand his will for our lives and the more we will hear His voice.

I believe that God speaks to everyone who listens. Many just don't listen, many don't know how to listen, and many don't believe he will speak to you.

I, too, heard from God more than I do now, when I prayed for 45 mins to an hour and read several verses in the Bible! Sometimes just a few, but many times I would get so interested in what God's Word was saying and revealing to me that I would sometimes read whole chapters! God's food is so good and when you grow from a child-like faith into a grown-up in Jesus' faith, it is so sweet and nourishing! I have to admit I don't hear from Him like I used to do, because I quit having a special time of prayer and reading the Bible! I had for a long, long time as that is why I wrote so many Christian poems and followed His guidance, daily!

Now, I still have God's quickening within by His Holy Spirit for I have been baptized in the Holy Ghost as well as water! There is a difference and power and great faith comes by being baptized in the Holy Spirit or Ghost and having His sweet, sweet love within my heart and soul! I can't even begin to tell you how much I love Him, because He first loved me and has helped me to endure and overcome many, many trials and provides for what I need and protects me in so many ways.....even today when I was going to get my prescriptions filled and some food for my body He watched out for me, because when I'm not feeling well, I do make mistakes, especially when driving! Praise God and Thank You, Jesus!

I still get words to write most of the time when I hear a preacher say something or even a Christian person or something I've read in my Bible! My eyes don't see very well these days and my fingers don't write like they should, so it takes longer and I'm still Computer challenged and forget things too easily by illlness for I get confused , but I know God is with me and He hears our prayers and as we listen for His quickening Spirit, or still small voice (like telepathic) He speaks to us! Some have heard Him audibly, but I can't say I have, as I don't remember God doing so to me! He speaks to me through dreams and visions mostly and as I talk to Him and tell Him my troubles and problems, He answers in one way or another! I've had mysterious ways happen too often to not believe He speaks to us if we are willing to listen! The more we ask and seek, the more we find and hear in Jesus' holy name and to give Him thanks, honor and glory for!!

I pray that more and more people, especially my unsaved loved ones, would be saved and know Jesus personally like my Brothers and Sisters and I know Him! Amen! God Bless! Ma Betty
