Heart Stopper on Saturday:yikes:

Hunted practically all day on Saturday with minimal results. Found 7 wheaties and no silver.... I asked my buddy to throw a dime (he found 5 silver that day) on the ground just so I can "remember" what silver sounded like....I gave him the dime back and I must have walked 3 feet away, when I got the same sound and cursor placement!!! "NO WAY" I said as I dug the plug to about 4 inches. Rolled the plug and out popped a merc. Now, I was happy with the coin, at least I didn't get skunked until I looked at the date....1916. :yikes: I told my buddy that I didn't have the courage to turn it over so I gave it to him to look at the mintmark. If it's a "D" you better be calling 911 and I mean quick, I said as he flipped it over. Turned out to be an "S" but hey, I had a shot at it....maybe next time!

HH, Duane

I dug a 1916 Merc last year and couldn't make out the mintmark so I waited until I got home. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Nice coin anyway Duane.

i carry a couple "pocket pieces" ...a 1928 merc & a 1929 Standing liberty quarter, just so i can "remember" myself! i wonder how many others of us do the same?

Nice Find N2 Treasure!
Last weekend, I hunted an old park in Waxahachie, TX and uncovered a later date Mercury Dime a half inch below the surface and this particular park has really been hunted heavily in the past. It just goes to show you that current conditions and a lot of patience can really effect the detection and recovery process.

N2,
You're getting spoiled. You already found a $2,000 + coin some months back. I supposed you want to find more stuff too ...

Keep at it Duane! Never know, the next time you might get the right mint mark. Thats the neat thing about this,it can happen at any time. Oh, and lay off the heart attack, it really messes up a good day of dirt fishing!
