Heated discussion about sin

This following week our growth group was having a heated discussion about sin. After reading about all the laws the Lord passed down to the Israelites we were discussing laws nowadays and how breaking them were a sin.

Then some of us were talking about if speeding was a sin. Someone sited Romans 13:1-2 which he interpreted as yes speeding is a sin.

But what about simpler rules? Like rules set up in schools. If someone runs in a hallway and there is a rule against it, is this sinning?
What about burning leaves when there is a governing rule against it?
Parking in a no parking zone?
I could go on and on with examples.

If these are sins, with all the laws, rules and regulations in our society how can we not sin?

Just looking for other people's take on this.

As no one will ever be sin-free, we all should try the hardest to not break rules in any way. That's the best we can hope for. Steve in so az

Man has a hard time just following the 10 Commandments. Jesus gave us just one...Love one another. If man could just Love one another he would be able to keep the 10 Commandments. In Galatians we are told we cannot keep the law of the OT and Jesus gave us something better. The laws then were meant to keep people in rightstanding with God. Priests provided blood sacrifices for people to atone for their sins. This had to be done over and over again. After Jesus bleed and died on the cross (and glory to God - arose from the dead and sits at the right hand of the Father) Jesus paid the price once and for all - figuratively and literally. The only 'law' Jesus gave us was to Love one another. Laws made by man - if they do not support Love one another would seem to be a sin in itself - whether anyone followed that law or not.

We are spirits in bodies that we sometimes have trouble keeping in control of. Jesus is there when we fail and there to forgive us our sins. If we do as Jesus did - we'd never sin...too bad we can't seem to do that so it is GREAT that we have a Mediator between us and the Father.

If everyone had God in their lives all those laws would be null and void because we would Love one another and not sin against one another. Sorry - I couldn't just give you a yes or no answer :)

Jesus said that just two laws sum up the entire 10 Commandments and that is to love God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your strength and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. By doing so, we have kept God's Commandments. However there's no way we can keep the ten Commandments without Jesus living in us, through His spirit. With the world being in the shape it's in today, apparently there are a lot of people who either don't love themselves or don't love anyone else outside of themselves. Jesus also made it perfectly clear we are to obey the laws, of the land, placed above us. We may not like it or agree with it but we are to (mind our manners) none the less. When you stop and think about it, Jesus and His teaching were really radical (and to some remain so).

man likes to pick and choose. We think we can decide what is ok to obey and what not to. Take sin for example. People think they can rank what ones are worse than others. They think that it is ok to lie, cheat, and steal. They say at least I don't murder. Sin is sin.

not willfully commit sin against God and obey man's laws that don't go against God's laws! For God's Law is always above mans' laws which too many times are made by those who are greedy by being money and power hungry...if any law of mankind goes against God's law then we who, love and obey Jesus and God's Holy Word, will obey God's Word and not man's! For instance, the murder of pre-born babies is legal according to the gov't but certainly goes against God's law of Thou shalt not murder, especially those who are innocent and babies are innocent in or out of the wombs! Anything that goes against God and His Commandments is sin but by asking forgiveness when we happen to do wrong, He will forgive, but we are not to continually keep sinning willfully against Him! Amen! Ma

Thanks everyone for your perspective on this. I never really thought about breaking some of man's law as a sin. I have a lot to learn and feel mighty "green". I've had some people tell me no matter what kind of man's law I break I am definitely sinning. I'll have to ask these people to clarify there stance on abortion and God's law.
