Hello to everyone

Hey I forgot to introduce myself,
I am Coinguy56 Known as Coby from Youtube
My 2 pages:

You can catch my metal detecting videos on the Coinguy56 page, I will be making some videos of my coin collection as well. First MD'ing video should be here in 3 weeks as I still have some gear to buy: Digger, Pinpointer, pouch, pouch for finds, and headphones. I can make a pouch for use just for now but I still would like to get a good pouch. The first hunt will take place in the woods behind my house, I'll have my :garrett: Ace 250 and a good camera. I'll have a tripod with me as well so no worries, I'll have some good footage.
Thanks for your time!

Welcome coinguy looking forward to some videoed hunts!!:garrett::thumbup:

Yeah I am too, I'm hoping to find some V Nickels, I've been looking for some of those
I need 4 more to complete my roll :garrett:

Welcome to the Garrett family, bro'!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

I do not use headphones. The only time I ever do is when there is too much noise or there is somebody else detecting nearby. On the Ace 250, with it's belltone, I think headphones are almost useless. Save the money and buy a really good digging tool like a Lesche. If you do get headphones, get them with a volume control.

If you get a pinpointer, get a Garrett Pro-Pointer. It is the best I have ever used by a mile.

I'll say it again. Don't skimp on a digger. I use a Lesche and it makes fast work of recovery and is indestructible.

Pockets are better than a pouch in my opinion and I usually dig 100 or more targets on a typical hunt. I've lost targets out of a pouch. When you are starting out you will dig a lot of cans and larger trash. Use a pouch or bag tied to your belt to hold your trash and toss it in a garbage can when you're done. Don't rebury trash or leave it laying on the ground near your hole. Refill your holes and repair the grass if you damage it.

Buy good knee pads. If you're out for more than an hour they'll save your knees. I only wear one on my right knee.

Consider buying good (2500 maH or greater) rechargeable batteries if you plan on hunting more than around 10 hours a week.

Don't get offended but metal detecting is not easy. Do not expect to find buckets of coins your first day or even for the first few months. Skip the video until you've practiced for a while.

My two cents.

Chris

Welcome.

This is a great forum to learn your new hobby. With people like Uncle willy (and others) you can get a straight answer to any question you have about the Ace.
Also if you go through some older posts, there is alot of info on the ace.I suggest you look through them.

I think you should use headphones, it saves battery life and people around you are not bothered . I also found that people don't try to ask questions or try to talk to you as much when wearing them. That can be a wonderful thing.:please:

Good luck learning your machine. It gets easier and clearer as you put time in. There's alot of trash out there.

You will never look at the ground in the same way again.

Good Luck,

Yeah I went around checking out the older threads and I saw a dude with a Fisher CZ found a 1916 D Mercury Dime, I couldn't believe my eyes when I pulled up that pic it was stunning to find a coin so rare. Its just nice to finally have a detector so I can find where the coin is and I won't have to make random holes. :garrett:

Yeah headphones are almost a must as there is no volume control on the 250 and it is a bit loud - plus your batteries will last twice as long. That speaker sucks a lot of juice.

Bill

Really? More battery juice plus longer lasting?! Now I really think I should spend $50 on a pair
Does it matter what kind to buy? Like Minelab head phones on a Ace? Or does it have to be Garrett Ace hp?

The advantage of using head phones extends beyond saving the batteries. It lets you operate in stealth mode and nobody knows if you have a good target or not. All you need is someone following you around and trying to see what you are finding and talking to the wrong people and you could have a security issue on your hands.
