I'm a new Quattro owner and need some friendly help and advice from someone with experience with this machine. I have read Andy Sabisch's book cover to cover but my Quattro does several things that are difficult for me to understand. I am sure this is due to operator error and inexperience.
One problem I seem to be having is with vanishing targets. I'll get a good audio signal, ID'ed as a coin. I'll get it again as I sweep back over. Then it seems to vanish into thin air. Andy's book suggests the wiggle method for pinpointing but also says that the Quattro may null out a target if it is gone over more than 2 or three times. This is almost mentioned as an aside; can anyone tell me exactly what behavior I can expect?
The second problem I am having is with the pinpointing mode, probably because I don't understand exactly how it works. When in pinpoint mode, does the bar chart indicate when the target is anywhere in the hot strip? In other words, do I always need to do two 90 degree scans to localize the object under the exact center of the coil. I have to say that very often the bar chart seems to saturate over a very large area compared to what the audio signal in target mode is telling me. I thought that this was telling me that I had a large deep object like a can being read as a coin, but the contents of my empty holes tell me otherwise.
Thanks!
Phillip
