Help - First Hunt With The XP DEUS

Old Virginia

New member
Well, the man in the brown truck just left an XP DEUS for me. I hope to take it out for a trial run in the morning. I'd like some advice on settings. I'm going to be hunting a small courtyard at a colonial homesite in VA's Shenandoah Valley. I've pounded this little area with the MXT Pro, the AT Pro and the T2SE and have made some great finds - colonial flower buttons, a Confederate Block A button, part of silver spoon and a colonial trade weight - to name a few. Now about all I get with the AT Pro and the T2 are iron grunts - its loaded with iron. I have a feeling, however, that there are still some good relics being masked by all that iron.

I know that the basic 1 is the best setting to start out on for beginners. But is that setting going to work in this environment for fast recovery and picking the remaining relics out of all the iron?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Do you have 9" or 11" coil?

11"

Maybe try the hot program:

Name: Hot

DISC: 1

Tones: full tones
Tone Settings: default

Sens: 90-93
TX Power: 2

Freq: 18

Iron Vol: 0

Reactivity: 3
Silencer: 0

Audio Resp: 4

Notch: nothing

GB: tracking

May not be the easiest program to work with, but it works well in the iron. Go slower and listen to the audio feedback, as this program is tone based.

Thanks Finder - I'll give it a whirl!

Its really kind of easy if your a coin hunter try a lower freq if the ground is not really trashy or full of iron try a recovery of about 2 or even one and set your power on 3 if in a clean area..if not and you are looking for buttons try a 12 freq and recovery of 3 and a slincer of -1 and power at 1-2 that is about it. I would try a pump ground bal and if everything work save it as a new program.

Thanks for the advice! It appears the machine will have quite a learning curve, compared to the other units I've used - but I'm ready to take my relic hunting to the next level and the XP DEUS seems to be the one to get me there.

Let us know if you find anything in that area you've pounded with the other detectors.

I'm going to give it a quick run in the morning. I've been reading through the manual some - there's a lot to grasp. But I'm eager!

Well, I took the XP Deus out this morning to a site I've pounded for 3 years with an MXT Pro, a T2SE and an AT Pro. It's a very small area I was hunting - about 800 square feet and loaded with iron. First hunt, not really knowing what I was doing, I pulled a 19th century decorative copper alloy box top (about 2x3 inches in size) out of the ground from a depth of just over 12". I also dug a colonial era spoon at about 8" which shared its bed with an iron nail, and a Buffalo Nickel at about 5 inches. Every spot has had all of the other machine coils over it. I was running the factory GM Power program. I do realize this machine has a huge learning curve and the possibilities for customization are almost limitless.

I believe the downloadable software upgrades will keep it cutting edge for some time. The weight is amazing. The telescoping rod is something the other manufacturers better pay attention to. I have a lot to learn on this, but for a first time, 90 minute hunt on a new machine I know little about in a pounded area, I was impressed.

Nice!

Get Andys book, best 20 bucks ya cn spend.

Tones will be diff from ATP but once you get used to them your set, hunt by tones not the numbers.....

Im sure you will be able to pull more goods from that area once you get more familiar with the Deus language! Great first hunt!

Yes, I believe you're right.
