help- my EXII won't power up!!

badance

New member
I thought someone may be able to help me out. My machine won't power up. Any thoughts on how to correct it? I'm pretty sure the coils at the bottom of the battery chamber are properly aligned. I'd like to fix it without having to send it out. Any insight ? THANKS

It could be a couple of things. Is your battery fully charged? If you have another battery pack that has juice, try that. It could also be that the connections from the battery and the machine caused the detector to reset all the presets in the machine. See if you can read anything on the display (if it is on you are going to have to really take a close look at the display. Now if you remember how to get to the display menu and turn up the contrast of the detector, you know that the detector had a false connection. But if this does not work them maybe you need to send the detector to mine lab so they can do a look-over on it. Hope my advice helps and the detector just reset everything. Good luck!

A few things I would check first. try a different battery pack, or make sure the one you have is charged up and the battery's are all making good contact. In fact if you have a multi meter make sure you have 9.6 volts for rechargeable or 12 volts for the alkaline pack at the output terminal's. If the voltage is there you know it is not the pack. Now put the battery in and while pushing the power button to turn it on push in on the pack and see if it will come on. If this don't work then you will have to send the Explorer in to be checked over.
I have seen a few Explorers brought in that will not power up and found one the spring in the battery pack was bad, so there was no voltage coming out to power up the detector. Another one powered up when I pushed in on the pack so we knew the springs were bad in the Explorer and cleaned them. The third one there was no display and like James said everything got turned to 0 so we had to turn up the volume, the contrast in order to see the screen or hear the threshold.

Good luck and I hope it is something simple you wont have to send the detector in.

If it is new I would take it back to where you got it and have them give you a new one. I would not send it to mine lab if it is new they should give you a new detector on the spot. If not I would buy my detectors somwhere else from now on. It did not come from kelleco did it. I have heard they buy alot of seconds and have them repaired and sell them a new. Do not know if this is true but I heard it from a guy who use to be a distributor for many different detectors.

Some peeps love Kellyco, some hate them, but i seriously doubt that story is true. If anyone had any proof of that claim there would be very serious reprocutions , not to mention a large lawsuit for Kellyco. I think your "distributor" had something to gain from this story. Tell him to be careful about stating things like that though, he could be held liable for slander. Anyway, If you are under waranty just send it in, or take it back to your dealer as stated.
Good luck though,
Travis
