I am thinking of getting a smaller coil for my exp2. Right now i am using the sunray 8" coil gave up on the stock coil just to heavy for me. I am thinking of getting the 5" excelerator and was wondering of any of you guys use this coil and to hear the pro and cons of it any feed backs would really me make up my mind thanks for your help H.H. Denny

Swingy Thingy harnesses. Takes the weight off your arm and lets you carry it with your shoulder.
Denny,
I don't think you'd like the 5" coil. I have a WOT and a ML 8" coil in addition to my stock coil. I rarely use the 8" because it doesn't give much coverage, and when you're swingin' slow, that makes it even slower. It's good in tight areas though.
I have heard really good things about the 12" Sunray. People say they're lighter than the stock coil, and you'd get another 20% coverage per pass.
If I were you, I'd try the Swingy Thingy with your stock coil first. It costs a lot less than a new coil and should enable you to use your 10" stock coil again.

is get into those area where there is a lot of trash and be able to pick out the good targets that are next to trash that the larger coils cannot see.
I am like you and hardly use the stock coil, my favorite is the Joey coil as I like the feel of this coil and it has depth too. The 8 inch Sunray is a great coil too, but it too can be too big for some heavy trash and this is where a 5 inch coil will clean house. I have dug some nice coin using the 5 inch coil that was missed by our local expert with his stock coil, i even let him try it and he felt it was like swinging a hockey puck on the end of the shaft, but he too found coins he had missed with the stock coil.
If you need ground coverage and the area is clean the 12 Stealth of SunRays inch coil works great, if it is fairly trashy with target closer together the 8 inch Stealth or the Joey works great and if you are working heavy trash area than the 5 inch will be you best coil to use. Most people we see are interested in depth, but I like the seperation myself for getting the good coins next to trash.

I just got a new sunray 5" coil and I love it, my # of finds has sky rocketed, but down here stuff aint deeper than 6". It works great in trashy area's and you get awesome isolation. It works great here, but in other places stuff may be deeper so it may not work as well. well good luck and HH

I have a 5"coil(excelerator).It works great in trashy areas. If you get a harness you can use your stock coil all day.I have the 14" coil that I use the harness and don't get tired. It does take some time to get use to.The 5" and 8" coils I don't use the harness.Maybe one of your hunting freinds have a harness ask them how they like it.

I actually owned two 5 inch coils and I really liked them for what they were for. That was the detech and the sunray. I sold both though as I hardly ever go to really junky areas anymore and figured that the money was better off investmented in other gear.
If you hunt areas such as those around picnic tables in parks, you will do good with the 5 inchers.
