diggingfix

along with little pieces of wire. I have found a place where I can squeek out lots of deep silver but then lose it when i dig becouse of all the 2" to 3" pieces of wire being masked, have managed 2 mercs,1917s,1923.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have the X-1 probe on your machine have you tried using your probe in iron mask mode? Just a thought as the X-1 is also like a minature coil.

Just about everyone I know who owns an Explorer has the X-1 probe and they are well worth the investment. Check with Sun Ray products. I think they are still around $180. You won't be sorry and like I said, the probe is like a miniature coil and they have very good depth once you dig your hole. With the probe on and in iron mask you might just be able to pick up those silver coins that are eluding you. Hope this helps. HH........:)

Thanks Eddie, I do have the automax vibe probe, maybe next time out I'll remember it.It was cold and wet my nose was running I had to pee and the silver had me so excited I couldnt put it together. Its like someone seeded the place with silver and iron then 75 years later here I am.

You definitely need to invest into a Sun-Ray X-1 Probe. I have one too and they are a vital part of your Explorer. It's like your Explorer being naked without one. It gets good depth and if my probe broke down, I would be at a huge loss and would have a hard time adjusting to not having one. That is how wonderful these probes are. Now is the wire steel or copper? If steel, you could try using ferrous tones, but this would work alot better if you had the X-1 probe so you could discriminate with it in the hole to find that silver you are missing. If it is copper, you are just going to try and dig the pieces too unless you just set up a tight pattern for silver coins only by using the smallest box in the learn display. Hope this helps and HH.

I agree that an investment into an X-1 probe is as important as a good pair of headphones, but remember that the X-1 will descriminate the same as the main coil and sometimes if you disturb the coin you lose the halo surrounding it in the soil. To remedy this problem I still carry my Bullseye which has come in handy on more than one occasion, as it has picked up on an object that was lost to the main system.

69scrounge,

If you cannot find the target in the hole with the X-1 due to a discriminate setting, simply remove the probe from the hole, push pinpoint, go back in and you will connect with the target. Many users are unaware of the value of the pinpoint mode when using the X-1 with their Explorer. Just make sure you push the button back to the disc mode after locating the target to avoid the de-tuning effect in pinpoint mode by leaving it on too long - the same as with the coil. Try it and you will find that you will not need a handheld probe for a back-up.

Thanks Ralph, I have set it in pinpoint and wasn't satisfied with the results but it was probably due to the fact that i'm so used to grabbing for the Bullseye that I didn,t give it a chance
