HELP

I had about an hour of daylight left after work today so I thought I'd do some detecting in my own yard.
Granted, I am very "green" but what am I doing wrong? My whole yard beeped. Every place I moved the detector would beep.
I dug at the loudest beep and found what looks like just melted metal. Then I dug another place with a loud beep. I dug and dug and dug. Checking each scoop of dirt I brought out of the hole. Then checking the hole to make sure I was still in the right spot. About 8 inches down, I lost the beep. I checked the dirt I got out of the hole, I checked around the hole. No beep now. "Ghosts"?
Can overhead power lines cause a disturbance?
I'm using a Tesoro Cibola. Just got it in December.
Teresa is discouraged.

Yes wires can cause interference! Try detecting as far from them as you can to see if there is a difference. Next can you turn down the sensitivity? There also could be lots of melted metal if there was ever a fire or if people burned junk there years ago.

I have had this same result at a few places and it's due to the iron mixed in with the sand. Now these are school yards wirth sand fill so may not be what you have . I use a different machine and they disappear. Steve in so az
