Help to find a wedding ring

Alver

New member
Hi, I want to search for a wedding ring in Gold which was lost in the sea, when we were at the beach and went out for a swim. It is lost somewhere rather close to the beach 6-10 meters (about 20-32 feet's), and the water is not deeper than 2 meters (about 6

Well here is your problem. It may not need to cost a FORTUNE, but it DOES need to cost a bit. The thing is, when you get in the salt water and wet salt sand, cheapo detectors do not perform. They go nuts from the mineralization and are fairly useless. And any water-machine is designed not only to work in those conditions but is also waterproof, further driving up the cost. A good machine will cost you $600 to $1100. It would be better if you could enlist the help of some local metal detectorists in your area. I'm sure you could find some. Where are you?

If you would still prefer the do-it-yourself approach, you could get something like the Detectorpro Headhunter or perhaps a White's Beachhunter ID. Either are less than the top-of-the-line machines would cost and fairly easy to operate. You would also want to go at low tide, to get closer to the ring while still being fairly shallow. If the 6' was at middle or high tide you could probably reduce that to 3' by going at low tide.

Even if you get a detector you may not find it. gold is heavy and sinks to the hard pan. Also the surf will move it also. I picked up my Excalibur II and loving it, but it will cost you $1000+ So is the ring worth it and you are looking for a new hobby.

If you want to do it yourself I recommemd you rent a good machine

Hi all, thank you for your different advices. I am located in Denmark (Europe) but the ring is in Turkey, where I also stay. When it was lost we looked for a place to hire a metal detector, but there wasn't any in the area. We should travel to Istanbul to get one, and we live in the south (Bodrum).
I think I must conclude, that the ring is gone and we have to buy a new one. We got an offer on a new ring on about 650 $ so it seems cheaper than the right detector! Unless I could sell the detector afterwards :)
