help with my new explorer xs

ok guys ..by rights I am a whites man..but i bought an explorer last year I bought an xs from my buddy for two hundred buck...Ive been out with it and feel i am doing ok with it...it does sing on deep silver...but i have a couple things i need help with...The upper handle likes to wiggle its way loose from the little clamp...i tried wedging a piece of plastic in there to tighten it up with mixed results...anybody got a good fix for it??it is not cracked in any way...just wigggles loose....also does anyone know if you can get the coil stand for this model anywhere??or does someone have one they dont use? my detector tips over when detecting and i think i would like it on there...my buddy lost it...or are there better aftermarket ideas for this??? thanks in advance for any replies.. i got a lot to learn with the explorer...but i have certain areas i want to use it...i will master it in time ...like my dfx...but i wont be detecting fields with it ...just areas i have pounded with my dfx to see what i may have missed...thanks again...i would pay for shipping if one of u guys got that stand that came with it...happy treasure hunting

the wiggle in the upper cam lock was a common problem on the first series or so. the factory replaced those loose with a better fit and harder material cam lock. If you want to just find an easy fix without sending it to the factory keep asking around and look on the detector modfications forum they do lots of crazy stuff.

As for the loop or coil stand-forget that and just make one that will bolt on with your arm cup at the bottom back as that will keep the wieght off. just look at pics of the newer models and you can fasion one out of alluminum or some other product.

good luck

Todd,I had the same problem with my old XS for years.I took some plumbers teflon tape and wrapped the top 3" of the rod with a few wraps and it stayed tight for a long time.Just add some every once in a while if it loosens up from using it a lot.Just put enough till the camlock closes snug.I also have the coil stand you want if you're interested....

The guy I bought it from hated that stand ... But I hate my detector tipping over all the time ...I an kinda a perfectionist guy ,,, So I will perfect my time with my Minelab also ... I pretty much have th DFX mastered ... And I do rather well with it ... It is an easier detector to learn from if you have used whites detectors for thirty plus years .... Minelab is a different kind of detector ... I think if Minelab handled like my DFX ... Id have the best of both worlds ... This is an early model XS ,,, But for two hundred bucks ,,, I figured I couldn't go wrong ... I used it a little bit last year ... One area I detected HARD with my DFX I found 5 OLD coins that I missed ... And another area I found ONE COIN that i missed ... ( Wheatie ) ... I don't like to miss much ... :) Either way ... the Minelab opens new areas up to me ..( All my old sites ...) And funny thing .. The guy I bought the Minelab from .. Finds stuff with his DFX that he he missed with his explorer .... I don't like to rip on any detector ... Whatever works for ya use it ... I prefer to use BOTH ... depending on the situation :) ... Their is no BEST CAR .... And there is no BEST DETECTER .... Nope ... Depends on the user ... and the situation

i have one of these on mine.the listing has ended but it gives you idea what it looks like.
Mine does not tip over this way and you can use the bigger adapter on head phone the xs had small adapter for headphone. They are probably hard to come by but they do work good.SUNRAY HEADPHONE Adapter for Minelab Explorer S XS

you need few things, one is Jeffrey Herke aluminium arm cup-stand, and second, cut 45 angle upper xs shaft to make it like explorer 2 and se. with cut ted angle they go deeper in the control panel, just remember longer shaft side directed to the handle. good luck Stasys

Thanks Kenny ... I will try the Teflon Tape trick ..That makes sense ...Then it shouldn't slip out like it does ... I am hoping this works ... I sure with SNOW would disappear so I could get my NEW XS out :) ... ( even though it is old .. It is NEW to me )

If the camlock doesn't close snug after you put the tape put a few more wraps. You might have to mess with it a few times but once you get it right it works great,no wobble at all.I used the XS for 10 years and I loved it until I got a SE Pro a few months ago.It is a great machine once you learn it...

They made a couple different upper rods for the XS, the original straight cut one and then one with bump on it to keep it from pulling out.. The easy fix back then was to slip a small balloon over the upper shaft before inserting into the handle, the rubber balloon gave it better grip plus took up the extra slack making a nice tight fit....wildherre
