Help with new head phone adapter

Rebel 012

New member
I purchased a 1/4" jack head phone adapter. It is the one made by Garrettt, when I plug it in it is as if nothing is plugged in and the speaker is on. I don't get any sound through the head phones. IS there any setting that needs to be changed or something Im not doing ?

thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem( Killer B's headphones). I was told by Garrett about some thing with the OHMS. NOT SO because I just used a prototype and it works. I will be in contact with Garrett tomorrow!!

Looks like a Quality Control issue, the Adapter should work with any brand of headphones.

Send em back Guys, and ask for one thats been Tried and Tested.

Garrett will take care of you.

I have a two position switch on my Detectorpros and they will work in one position and not in the other. The machine goes to speaker then.

I called Brad at Garrett and was told that ALL headphones WILL NOT work with the adapter without a little fandagling...If your phones do not work, there are 2 items you need to purchase...a 1/4" MONO to 1/4" Stereo adapter, or a 1/4" Mono to 1/8" Stereo adapter depending on your headphones plug size, and an Inline Volume Control extension cable...Both of these can be had at ANY electronic supply store...The ATs need a certain impedance in the headphones to deactivate the speaker, and some stereo plugs will not make proper contact inside the adapter cable to shut the speaker off...These 2 items should solve your problems...
I want to see Garrett add a volume control to future adapters to eliminate this problem...Or include the extension and adapter with the headphone adapter...

HH,

I just ordered an adapter for my AT Pro. Hope it works.

The first one I got was defective and no 'phones would work with it. Sent it back and Garrett sent a new one and now my Killers B's work great!!

What detector do you have PRO or GOLD???? not that it really matters, but Garrett still says it's the OHMS on the Killer B's!!!!

the volume seems a little low on the Killer Bs. An in-line cord with a volume control would probably help.

Does anyone know what brand of headphones are working with the headphone adapter because I have the sunray gold, the rattlers, and the rat phones..

I have a set of 1/8 inch wireless headphones that I can't get to work. I tried a stereo x stereo adapter and a mono (machine side) x stereo (headphone side) and both won't work. Any ideas? These wireless phones work on my other machines but not the ATpro.

Khouse ,read the Post Truoble with Headphone Adapter a couple of pages back, I have posted pics

of the Extention cable you will need in order for your Wireless Phones to work wiht the A T Pro.

I'm using a set of Rattlers with the switch on them in the up position with my extension and they work fine. Also have used earbuds with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter.

That's the problem with propritary connectors ......The company making them has a monopoly on the connectors and adapters , but the customers are left hoping they work and can't go anywhere else if they don't ......Too bad !!.......On the positive side of things, they are not hard wired into the control box so when a working adapter is used, and wired correctly , you are able to change out the headphones for those of your choice ....Jim

HH,

I think Brad says it like it is.

However I think much of the problem is in the 1/4 in line plug. I Have never liked that style connector and that is from many years of using this stuff for other reasons not related to metal detectors in any way.

If memory serves correctly, Garrett was selling the special connector for the At Pro by itself for a short time last winter. I still wish I had bought a couple. Anyway, what buying the adapter does get you is the connector that you cannot not get anywhere else. This is better than cutting the cord of a working set of head phones. I have read on several forums the claims that other headphone are far superior. That could be but I have not seen it and I have tried others.

My reason for wanting the adapter is so I can go to another set of headphones if the originals ever quit for some reason. I simply do not like hunting with out headphones. The adapter gives you a lot of flexibility as to what you can use.

What my plans are for a project sometime this winter is to make my own adapter which has 1/4 and 1/8 inch chassis receptacles and a volume control all mounted in a small aluminum box that is form fitted into the triangular space under the arm cuff. I am also giving some though to extending little wings out on either side to widen the footprint stance just a little.

I have both. 2 ATP's and 1 ATG. One ATP and the ATG are using adapters and the other ATP is outfitted with a set of underwater Grey Ghosts wired direct with a Garrett plug. All of my 'phones work with the adapters, Killer B's, Sonys, Jolly Rogers and others. First adapter I got was bad tho. No hesitation, boxed it up, sent it to Garrett and they sent a new one back. You should do the same and quit worrying about it, not worth the mental anguish.
