Can anyone help me please? - I have now been using my quattro for about 6 months now and I am now getting a little frustrated. All of my detecting buddies have explorers and help each other out with tips for settings etc. and I am feeling a little left out ! I have bought the book mastering the quattro, and go out at least once week detecting, but I would be interested if anyone can help me with any "tinkering" tips with settings they have found themselves. I mainly detect on Fields, where roman, gold and silver and hammered coins are found - is there anyone out there that can help me?

Check this webpage it has some good information.

with your machine, rely on your on observations, tips are o-k but what you learn on your on with the Q will teach you more, I bury a silver dime and other coins at various depths, then vary my settings and see what happens.........then hit the lawn chair for awhile and do it again, thats my story and I'm sticking to it............

I agree with Huntur - make a coin garden and then tinker with settings. One thing I have learned - pay more attention to audio than to the visual's. The audio responses will tell you much more than the display.

use a silver dime at 4 inches, a copper penny at 4 inches then go to 6 inches with a quarter and penny. scan the area first in all metal mode to make sure no iorn - or maybe you want that in your test bed. Also make sure soil is firmly packed/watered/packed/watered to eliminate "air pockets". I use a fat pole with markings on it to poke holes to get the "exact depth".

Hi Chucky,
If you only hunt once a week it will take you MORE time to learn your machine. Test garden & test coins in your actual hunting site are good inputs.
We can also learn from your Explorer friends...if their current settings work well in your common sites...post their EX2 setup here and we can help you figure out approx Quattro settings. Mike Virginia has used both machines and his input would be invaluable.

It is the first time I have used a forum like this and I did not know what to expect, Just want to say thanks to everyone who replied to me. Happy detecting!
