Helped a new Acer today....

Was out at my favorite ballpark and had decided to use the sniper coil at sensitivity 2 to have a chance at one particular spot nobody dares hunt-full of screwcaps (deep) and large metal scrap. All of a sudden I'm looking at a young guy with a shiny new Ace he got on E-bay and a shiny 12" coil to boot! I could see the desperate look on his face and when he told me his situation, I just broke into a laugh. He had the sensitivity at factory preset (6) and said he couldn't move the coil without a signal. After giving him my spill about the sniper coil for this particular area, I got him to set the sensitivity at 3 bars, got one of the large pieces of metal (about the size of a large screwcap) and waved it in front of his coil and he picked it up at almost 10"! I told him that was probably most of the signals he was getting. I told him that large coil was a specialty coil and great for wide open or low trash areas, especially where there might be a chance for old, deep stuff. Anywho, I think he's gonna stick with the Ace a little longer, and I got a look at that 12" coil and what it could do.

He was still wet behind the ears huh good job!we were once all like that once upon a time....it reminds me of a story.....did :lol:I tell you about the time that I.....oh ! I already told you guys sorry!!!! LOL

Yeah, before he told me his problem he asked how I was doing and I pulled out about $5 in change I had found (most of them quarters) and a silver ring. I didn't mean to showboat, I just really thought he was interested. Then I started in on my love for the sniper coil and how I was gonna sell my Ace out of disgust before some of you guys got me to experimenting with my Ace and then getting the sniper coil. That kinda was the way he was feeling and broke the ice. I now understand all the confusion over the Ace-depending on what part of the country you're from and your ground and trash conditions accounts for all the varying sensitivities that people run theirs. I've only found one place in my area where I could go as high as 6 bars.

He really stacked the deck against himself with the large coil. When I had one, I used it most of the time, even in high trash, but you've really got to know when you can't maneuver between targets enough to be able to separate the good from the bad.. Sometimes, it just makes life easy when you use the right tool for the job.

I've had mine for almost three years (and no problems with the machine) and I'm
still learning about this yellow beast! :)-)
Good going slingshot.

Yeah using that big coil in trashy areas will turn one off real quick, especially a newbie. I wonder if he had a stock coil for it.

Yeah, and I told him that he would be better with it on-HOWEVER I've gone completely beserk over the sniper coil and I'm afraid I may have gone a little overboard on recommending it. I have owned over 100 detectors in 30 years and the Ace with the sniper is the best combo I've ever used. I think it's because of the places I have to search and the conditions. Since Christmas I've found more than $100 in coins with it alone. I repeat, it is totally unbelievable.
