Weather...Mid 90's, humidity 60+%, heat index around 106.
Location...the super pounded entrance to my local old park 1.5 blocks away that I walked to which was stupid in hindsight.
Time spent hunting before I came across this signal, about 45 uncomfortable sweat drenched minutes.
Tools...F70 and DD sniper coil.
Settings...disc, 21, sense 95, speed SL boost, thresh -3, tones 1.
Numbers...mid 80's jumping to low 90's with no drops to iron from 2 directions.
Depth...5".
Target...Indian head nickel or better known as a buff.
Condition...discolored but pretty sharp details.
Date...1936.
Time it took for me to decide enough was enough after digging this thing and just go home...15 minutes.
Making lemonade out of lemons thoughts...I can hunt through most of the winter around here so I guess that is the trade off for dealing with these summer days with killer heat but right now I hate this weather.

Got a nice buff, though.

Yeah, its a killer right now. Memphis is about the same as Birmingham. Heat index near 110. 6:30 to around 10:30 is about it for me. Good job of the Buffalo. HH jim tn

Revier, that buff came in high at 80 to 90 must have had a large hey low around it. They usually come in around 30 to 35. Nice find.

No halo...up averaging.
My soil is both mineralized AND loaded with more iron than normal...even for the highly mineralized SE. type of dirt.
All coins past 3" start going up in numbers here, past 5" they really soar which is something I had to learn and really helps out after I discovered a new language for hunting in this area.
I have dug several deep nickels since I moved back here, a couple of buffs and regular nickels at 3-4" were slightly higher in the 40's to 50's, all the rest that were 5-8" deep were all the same as this one, mid 80's to low 90's with no other metal around it except what is existing in the soil.
That would be regular nickels from the 1940's on up, a couple of war nickels, other deeper buffs and a really deep worn V nickel at almost 8".
Dimes do it too if they are deep and so do all one cent coins including Indian heads so...strange.
A silver dollar at 4-5" was a solid 98-99.
Other targets do this also and not just coins but after realizing this I came to rely on this effect.
Now I don't assume anything when it comes to normal numbers because anything I find can and usually is up averaged.
The great thing is when I see a signal like I got on his coin, high numbers in the 80's to low 90's from 2 ways with no drops to iron and the same behavior when double checking in maxed out all metal and if it is anywhere in he 5-8" depth range it is usually going to be a coin.
I have several silver dimes, Indian heads, older cents and nickels in my collection now because I learned about this strange behavior.
