I put the bottom one in for size-(It is about the size of a half dollar)- and decided to get an ID on it also <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">
The Turd looking thing is about 7 inches long
 
...what's the back of the moon and star? A button attachment? Token?
 
symbol represents. I have been told it was CW by a person I consider an idiot but I have had other identifications too. I never did get an answer I could rely on.

If it ain't that, is it Labrador? Great Dane? Irish Wolfhound?
 
I do know what it is and it is interesting. I don't know about the other.
 
The coprolites from turtles and dinos look different. Yours looks like this, from an early mammal..

The only thing I can find for this relating to the Civil War is this description for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Department Bylaws:
Section 5. Each member of any Camp Guard shall wear upon their kepi the insignia as adopted by the Department, being the VII Corp Badge. The Badge shall contain a silver, five-point star (point down). There shall be a crescent moon around the top of said star, touching four of the points. The moon shall be red in color and trimmed in gold.
