$370,000 Ring Dropped Off Pier
Man Offers Reward For Orange Diamond Ring

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A man lost a diamond ring appraised at $370,000 off the Main Street Pier in Daytona Beach over the weekend.

Robert Gismondi said he had just eaten at the Daytona Beach Pier restaurant when the ring slipped off his finger.
"I reached into my pocket to pull out a cell phone and when I pulled my hand out the ring just slipped right off, bounced and fell right in," Gismondi said.
He described the ring as having a large orange diamond with a white gold band.
Gismondi said the ring is a family heirloom handed down for two generations and he is desperate to find it.
"I was devastated. We ran back and got the guy that worked at the pier and we told him what happened," Gismondi said.
Gismondi has placed an ad in the paper and filed a police report. He has also filed a claim with his insurance company, which is planning to send dive teams out to the area to search for the ring.
Lifeguards said the tide could take it back out to sea, or it could be buried under the sand.

.... be too cheap or stupid to purchase an appraisal ... and end up sending it off to a smelter for the gold value .... which is likely to be just a few hundred bucks.

A ring like that is a gigantic waste of money ... and an unnecessary expense (insurance). If I found it, after reading what your posted DW, I'd contact the insurance company and let them pay me the reward and let them sell it back to the guy who lost it. Bet ya he's happier with the insurance settlement. JMHO.
