Here's a few thoughts and feedback on the new omega....

I,ve got quite a few hrs on the unit now, so I feel i can relay some opinion safely without being called a company basher.. I had some reservation on buying a teknetics because I just didn't think they were so hot of a company, but maybe I was missing something with the release of the various new models they had.. With that being said, here's what I'm seeing first hand in my ground in North East Ohio..

What I like...Easy to use.. nice and lite and balances well in your hand for long extended hunting trips........ If you want to hunt school yards and football fields for shallow clad,( 0-3 inches) it will eat it up all day long.... as will many other units for considerably less money...

Now , when you start hitting targets at 4+ inches the target ID is just about totally useless....Signals are weak. Here's what I got today.. at least 6-7 hits registered quarter at 4 inches.. well expecting to dig a25 cent piece , out comes foil ( about a 1x1 inch square ) every time.. Ya I know, your saying its seeing it as a coin size target, but please, two way different conductive targets..

Nickles were all over the VDI spectrum.. I was diggen em from #'s 50 all the way up to 65, but i was finding them.

My ground is balancing from 68 to about 72 in all the places i've been so far and showing 1 bar for the iron content in the ground.... I can run my sens up to70 and its stable.. and set disc at 20.

Do I think it will hit coins beyond 5 inches?? No I don't.... Not in my area at least.. Theres probably allot of guys whose results are much better then mine.. I'll continue hunting with the unit and relay more experiences as time goes by...

Till then. HH Mark ( ohio )

You think maybe you have a bad coil??, or it's just an average type detector.

Omega will detect them?

Mark's Omega has a problem and isn't working properly. When a new model first comes out it seems there is the potential for some problems to surface. I've seen that first handedly with a lot of the first issue units across all brands that I've bought over the years. Unfortunately in this case, Mark apparently has drawn one of the few "short straws". I'm sure FT will make and get it right for him. Not a fun thing to go through, but it does happen. Keep us posted Mark.

says he'll contact FT on my behalf and start the gears in motion for a fix or replacement...Seems like a stand up guy so I'll give it a day or two and see what happens.. If no contact from either.... I"ll be on the horn makin some noise..

Regards.. Mark ( ohio )

I'm sure they will probably want to look at it, but would be nice if your dealer could just swap you a new one! If you have to send it in to First Texas, once it gets there contact Jesus (hay sues), as he is excellent at getting things taken care of at First Texas :)

Ya, a swap out would be nice... but what if by some long odds the next new one sent to me is just as poor//// or even worse!! I'd rather have them go over what I have and make it work like it's suppose to........................ I just hope it doesn't take weeks to get it back to me... but first things first.. haven't heard back from FT , there making contact with the dealer.

Regards.. Mark ( ohio )

Did you buy the detector new? If so you should insist on a replacement. You shouldn't have downtime because of a company's poor quality control. If the dealer has such a good relationship with the company he should fedex you a new one yesterday and be responsible for shipping the defective product back to the factory.

Bought a faulty Tejon from a big dealer on the other forum. He pretty much refused to swap it out and I had had it for less than a week. I had bought many detectors from him in the past, but I had to send it in to Tesoro, and they kept it over a month. Needless to say I was a little ticked off. And the Tejon was defective. But I've bought 10 detectors in the past three years, and he could have had those sales. Penny wise and pound foolish. And I could have sent him dozens of sales that I sent to a sponsor on this forum. Dummy.

Thats a promise.....
