Here's another one of my better condition finds. It's not a rare coin (some around here are even disappointed that it's a common British) but it made my day!! Found on 09-28-05 at a hammered site on the rim next to lots of iron. Some great finds posted by fellow hunters recently. Gets me antsy for some thawing SOON!!! Thanks for sharing.

That's in freaky-great condition for a dug one! I only have one Britannia King George halfpenny. (And one Hibernia).

Mine's a 1738, though you can't quite see it in the pic.

Looks like a crusty critter compared to yours. But I'll take it! I got an escutcheon plate from a Brown Bess musket on the same site.

Nice. Sometimes you get lucky and water drains quickly from the coin. I'll be posting my best half cent soon. Found in a sandy area. Sent a bunch of coins (including the half cent) to PCGS to slab. 6 out of 8 rejected!!! So don't bother to slab any copper. Environmental damage was stated as a reason for rejection. Don't you wish all coppers were readable?? Who knows what our collections would look like? Maybe they should have made them out of button material.

You really shouldn't waste time (and money) submitting dug stuff, no matter how nice, to PCGS or NGC. ANACS would be the way to go.

You've got that right! It was a waste. The ironic part is that they slabbed 2 silver coins. One of those coins was an 1848 Half Dime. It was found 3 feet from a three cent silver piece which they refused to slab saying it was cleaned. It just shows you that the experts are not Gods!!!
