Hey Alan here's some Happy Camp gold. The big one was found with a detector.

Holy smokes Bill!
Ya know before I clicked on the post I thought in my head "yeh probably that dude Jim Sweeny and his nuggets he found" and sure enough there it was. I here lots of stories about that dude down in Happy Camp, but saw few pics of his gold on Dave's site and heard about the 72 oz year he had with a detector. I think he got it all around there as he is gone now. Moved elsewhere.

Just before I came back to Oregon I detected and old Hydro mine and I was with a dude which had a Minelab Gpx 4000 and that actually knew Jim Sweeney. He was telling me what Jim used to do here at that hydro mine like using a rake to remove over burden and that he loaded up on gold from that pit....like i said he must have got it all because me and that other guy hunted for 4 hours with 2 PI's with both 14" coils and we found nothing. Plus other dudes had been at that pit also which was a HUGE AREA.

Oh well, I guess I missed the good ole days of early electronic prospecting where it was easier pickins. Oh well I still love the hunt...

Been out 3 times lately here in Oregon with my Infinium with the 10x14 mono which I love and man its hard to find a spot to detect for nuggets with all the private property around here. Got lots of GPS locations of mines and when I get near...oh no, not another fence to block my route. And the NFS has blocked off some roads that lead to mines which is against the law to block the roads for mineral exploration according too the mining law. Which they have no authority over....uh oh I'm ranting now. Ha

Great post Bill!
Thanks for sharing that!!!
Heres a pic of some mule deer on one of my prospecting hunts....massive!

Alan

Nice muleys. Haven't seen many of those since I used to hunt them in Arizona many moons ago One can see those big racks and big ears a mile away. At least you won't go hungry. HA. Ain't there any BLM or goverment land down there that you can hunt on? Have you talked to the FS about traveling on these roads? Maybe you can wangle some kind of permit out of them. There's gold down there if you can get to it.

Bill

Hey Bill,
Yeh theres BLM and NFS here...trying to get to them sometimes where the gold is sometimes is blocked off or private property blocks access to BLM.
