Just a thank you and an apology...
A while back I posted about my first try with the Platypus and I commented on how it didn't like the saltwater. Well, I tried it again yesterday and lo and behold I had the same problem. It was falsing all over the place. Very unstable, especially near the water. So, I went back to the car and put on the stock coil. At first it seem to work better, but then it started acting up again. Very unstable, lots of falsing no matter how I changed the settings. A friend of mine who was hunting behind me was digging lots of targets (that I obviously was missing).
Last night, I recalled that you posted something a while back about the WOT in reply to those who remarked how it falsed a lot in the water. You said that you never had any problems with it and that it could quite possibly be something else. You pointed out that there could be a problem with the connection to the control box. Well, I went out again today and brought along a can of contact cleaner. Before I went out, I sprayed both the male and female connectors with it, put everything together and set off for low tide.
I absolutely could NOT believe the difference ( I was using the stock coil at the time). My machine has never run this smooth. I was able to run it very hot and even had the gain up. No falsing. It even handled the water well too. I can't wait to go out and try the Platypus at the beach.
So in closing, thanks for the tip and accept my apologies for posting about the problem I had with the Platypus that, I'm now sure, had absolutely nothing to do with the coil.
Happy New Year!
Joe
