My friend, Jon, called about some sidewalk repair he saw in SE Portland. It was getting dark and we each had a good half hour drive. I grabbed my Classic ID and met him there. He got out at the first corner with his XLT and I took the opposite side.
I plugged in my headphones and turned on the detector and nothing! Dead quiet! This was NOT the type of "silent search" that I enjoy!!
For the first time in 40 years of detecting, I got to a site with dead batteries and w/o my spares. <img src="/metal/html/help.gif" border=0 width=23 height=15 alt=":help">
Fortunately, Jon had his rechargeable tray and I was quickly into action, but the four corners with new digging were just small sections, and they had already been hit earlier.
Only two coins, and I got them both, A lousy Memorial penny, and a 1906-S Barber dime in really nice shape! We were done in about 20-30 minutes. I really felt bad finding the only silver using my buddies batteries. .. <img src="/metal/html/frown.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="
