HF DD Coil

Hey guys, just ordered the HF DD 10 inch coil. In my area, some soil is very mineralised, and other area's it's not. With that being said,
what are your opinions on it, and how welldoes it perform on less mineralised soil?

The 10.5" HF DD is a good coil. It sees pretty deep because of it's size, and separates well for it's size. In mild soil it's an excellent relic coil.

Will it pick out those old silver coins as well?

It will see them, but because of narower bins at the high conductive end of the scale, IDs will be less reliable, so attention to the subtle differences in tone quality will be more crucial to junk avoidence.

So in your opinion, would you rather then use the MF versus the HF for all purpose?
I do like hunting at the beach looking for gold jewelry, and old sites for old coins.

Unfortunately, the two oppose each other in terms of optimum selection.
The HF coil would be best at the beach searching for gold and fine jewelry, but the MF or LF will hit copper and silver coins better. The bin segments of the MF coil are the most uniform, and therefore the most honest TID. The 10.5" MF is a good coil for general purpose, separates well, and does better in tougher soil than the stock MF concentric. However, only the 9" concentric and 6" coils are waterproof, so if you plan to venture into the water at all, keep this in mind.

I guess what got me a bit confused is that guys here were saying that they were using the hf 6 inch for pulling coins from trashy parks,
So with that being said, I figured that the 10 inch would be good for bigger fields as well. Much to yet learn, all help is appreciated from all.

The 6" HF DD looks at the smallest slice of ground of any Xterra coil. By that virtue alone it is a good coil in heavy trash. The next best would be the 6" MF concentric. Although it's concentric, it's still smaller than the 10'5" and will separate in trash very well while seeing deeper at it's center than the 6" HF DD. The 9" and 10.5" are better suited to more open ground hunting. The 9" will go deepest, but not by much, and only at the center of the coil. And in mild ground, nothing is as deep as the 9" 3kHz.

Another advantage of the smaller coils, is that you can often get the depth that you seek because you can generally run hotter.

Can't speak for the 10.5" DD HF coil, but my 10.5" DD MF coil gets at least an inch more depth than the 9" MF concentric coil does.

Just got the HF DD 10.5 coil yesterday. Weather sucks this week with rain. Will let you guys know how it works at the beach as well as the fields.

Your getting some good advice here but I will say that I do very well with the 10.5" HF coil. Nearly every silver coin that I've pulled out of the ground has been with that coil despite all things pointing to the MF and LF coils being more resonate with silver coins. I've never gone back over an area that felt I had conpletely detecting with the HF coil with the MF coil and found a silver coin. You had mentioned beach detecting and that will work very well for you on the beach.

I feel that you can sweep a little faster with the HF coil than the MF coil. The MF coil seems to take a little longer to respond.

Have fun!

Finally got to use the new HF DD 10.5 coil for the last 2 days. Found lots of clad, a 1917 wheat penny,a St. Christopher silver medallion
and a 1925 Standing Liberty quarter. I think I like my new toy..............:hot:

Nice Hunt ... congrats on the SLQ and the other finds. The 705 just keeps getting better.
