got me one about 2 wks ago and have a few outings on it.. Not seeing much in the way of depth with it.. How's your experiences been with it??

Mark ( ohio )

Hi Mark.
I've looked at buying one of these. I love the switch on and go style. No real messing with programming and stuff.
Is it as easy as the youtube video implies? and what are you comparing the depth of it too?
Good luck.

Hi Chaddy;

Yes, very easy to operate.. ground grab and go...no specific comparisons but noticed weak coin signals at the 3-4 inch level.. I'm skeptical if it will hit a coin beyond 5-6 inches with a correct Id..Gave up an f-70 ... alot more erratic in my ground, but alot deeper also..

all I can add is that I have a Gamma and have gotten excellent depth (8 to 10) in ground that was in the mid 80's with two bars of Fe3O4 showing. You might have a problem.

well.. its seems my ground is alittle milder then yours... My GB is mid to hi 70s with 1 bar showing at times.... How much hunting time do you have on your machine Brad??? I don't have alot, and will continue to try different things before I make my final conclusion..

Thanks. Mark ( ohio )

I mentioned that particular ground because I see it at several sites but it's certainly worse than the local average and is my best depth test locally. I've probably got around 60 hours on the Gamma. I have yet to have it out in dry ground to see how how much that detracts from what I've seen so far. Also you mentioned something about the audio being weak with your Omega even on the shallow depths you've seen. On mine, the audio doesn't really start being modulated (on coin sized targets) until about 6". It's got very nice audio on deep coins. I would think a properly tuned Omega should do everything depthwise I've seen with the Gamma and even a little more.

Mark,

I find the Omega to be more of a relic hunter than a coin machine. It just works better if you think of it that way because then you'll have different expectations for it. While you can hunt coins with it that is not it's major design criteria.

But if you like to ferrous/non-ferrous hunt and or hunt targets down into the ferrous range, then you'll find the Omega enjoyable using the 1 or 2 tone modes. Best thing to do with the 3 and 4 tone modes is let the highest tone do two things for you. First, tell you about deep iron falsing, and second, alert you to shallow clad.

Thanks for the input Mike..... been along time since we chatted... anyway I do use only the 1 or 2 tone disc.. Haven't put much time on the unit yet, but plan to give it ample time and see what it truly will do.. Trying to get one of my explorer buddies to accompany me so we can compare targets, I'm interested to see if it will hit on items 6,7,8,9 inches in the ground..

Later.. Mark ( ohio )
